90’s Style Updated

To me nothing says 90’s fashion more than a slip dress, combat boots, and a moto jacket so when I put on this outfit I flashed right back to the days of Daria, 10 Things I Hate About You, and Clueless. How I love/d all three of those!

Sadly this dress from Nasty Gal is selling out quickly and there are only a couple sizes left (the size 10 fit me great, FYI). However, it’s a great, much less expensive option if you like the style of the “Sydney” dress from Sanctuary. They both have a subtle 90’s vibe. This is another affordable option. See my recent post on the white version of the Sydney dress here.

You could go all out with combat boots and a flannel around your waist or give it a bit of 2017 update like I did. I guess I didn’t pay attention to the description as I expected it to be the kind of polyester that doesn’t stretch, but it’s quite stretchy. I have actually worn it more as a nightgown than a dress lately. It’s so comfy!

I don’t know how long they plan to offer it, but they are offering 50% off of all orders on Nastygal.com. Score! One thing to note – my order shipped from the UK. It arrived in a reasonable amount of time and it was kind of fun to have something ship from another country, but it was a little unexpected.

I haven’t ordered anything from them in a few years, but last time it shipped from within the US. I guess they’ve made some changes because I noticed that the sizing on the tag is in UK sizing, even though the sizes listed online are the US equivalent.

I am so loving this cooler weather! I’ve really been looking forward to wearing my jackets and sweaters. While it’s not all that cold during the day (except today – it’s raining!) it is starting to feel like fall and I can usually add a layer in the evenings.

So of course I had to break out my oxblood suede jacket! One of the best things about buying classic pieces is that you don’t have to “retire” them after 1 or 2 years. This almost red/almost brown color is perfect for fall and goes with just about anything.

While this exact jacket is no longer available, I spotted this faux leather jacket at Express and I can see it being perfect for fall. It has 10 5 star reviews for a reason! I also think this open front moto jacket is super cool. The sizes are limited in the oxblood color, but there are some other colors to choose from.

I have gotten so much wear out of these booties, they are surprisingly comfortable for the height! Politics aside, Ivanka Trump does have some pretty cute shoes in her line.

My awesome Vince Camuto “Ayla” Satchel is still available – and it’s on sale! I highly recommend it. I’ve had it for close to a year now and it still looks pristine. Satchels (with a shoulder strap) have become my favorite style of bag due to their versatility. Is it just me or do some purses fall right off your shoulder too? Grr.

These pics were taken right before the hubs and I went out for dinner and I’d forgotten what a beautiful time of day “golden hour” is. It’s hard to take a bad shot with such pretty and soft lighting.

Although reviewing these pics really reminded me that I need to smile in my photos. You have probably heard of resting bitch face, but I’m afflicted by it’s cousin – resting sad face. If I’m just chillin’ somewhere, in my own little world I often get comments like, “what’s wrong?” And “are you ok?” Lol

What are you most excited to wear now that it’s officially fall?

Thanks so much for visiting! I hope you come back soon!

Can’t Get Enough Pink

I’ve always resisted what people thought I should like. For example, as a kid I was “supposed” to like pink because I was a girl. I felt like I had to  dislike it just to prove them wrong. Now I’m mature enough to embrace the fact that I LOVE PINK. It makes me happy and that’s all that’s really important.

More and more I’m living life by feeling my way through. If it feels good, I do it. If not, I (usually) try something else. It may seem overly simple, but I argue that we make life way more complicated than it has to be. Of course, there is something to be said for life’s engaging dramas and doing things we don’t like since it helps us clarify what we do like. So this is just my motto, I’m certainly not saying it’s right for everyone. But man has it enriched my life.

Now that I’ve gotten out my deep thought for the day, on to my outfit! This bag was such a nice surprise. I’d never heard of Chic Wishlist so when I got an offer to snag this bag at a very steep discount I hesitated but eventually pulled the trigger. I’ve wanted a pink or blush bag for so long, but for some reason I never found one that I thought was purchase-worthy.

I buy almost everything online these days, but I rely heavily on past experience with a brand and online reviews. This brand provided neither so I was a little unsure what the bag would actually be like when it got to me.

It’s not leather, rather it’s listed as being primarily “silica gel” and I didn’t really know what that meant. It also doesn’t have a lining and it’s pretty darn expensive. Normally I’d pass on it for those reasons, but this bag actually rocks!

It feels and looks sumptuous and I don’t miss the lining one bit. It’s a great size and it just looks classy to me. If you balk at the price tag I totally understand. Here’s a code to get a discount of 70%: SaveOnWishList. Seems a lot more reasonable now, eh?

This brand offers some really fun and fashion forward items. Just keep in mind that everything ships from China, so the delivery can take a little while. I’m seriously eyeing their faux fur jackets. I’d love to hear if you’ve ever tried this brand yourself in the comments!

I considered a lot of different pairings for this bag, but I ultimately went with my fabulous pink trench and I love the result. Is it just me or does this ensemble look expensive? I did a post on this chic trench in the past here and I still love it!

The reviewers are right, it’s not a typical trench coat in that it’s not rain resistant and it is lightweight, so it might be more appropriate to call it a “topper.” It’s actually perfect for the Socal weather and while the fabric does wrinkle easily, the wrinkles also fall out pretty easily when it hangs. The faux leather details are an awesome touch and it’s on sale!

I cheated a little with this look as it was pretty hot when we shot these pics, but I’m already feeling the fall vibes. So many people on social media are lamenting the end of summer and meanwhile I’m like when the heck is it going to feel like fall around here?! I can’t wait to pull out my boots. Lol, the grass is always greener eh?

This white dress is an old purchase from Nasty Gal, but I found a very similar dress at NordstromRack for under $45 (there are more colors available too)! Isn’t the scalloping at the bust adorable? Every girl needs at least one fit and flare dress in her closet!

With all the pink in this outfit I thought a nude shoe would be best and my Sam Edelmans fit the bill perfectly. My particular style is sold out, but the “Hazel” is a cult favorite and very similar. I was just at DSW yesterday and I am always impressed by how many great shoes they have from this brand. Why would anyone ever pay full price?

My hubby is so wonderful to be willing to be my part time photographer. The only downside is that he’s not quite as detail oriented as I am. Case in point – all the pics we got with the bag flipped the wrong way, haha! Oh well. I’m just happy he’s so supportive. Thank you babe!!

What’s your favorite color to wear?

Have a wonderful day and stay true to you! Muah! Kate

Sanctuary “Sydney” Dress

I’d had this dress on my Shoptagr list for a long time so I did not hesitate to snap it up when I got the notification that it went on sale. I LOVE the pattern and cut. It’s selling out in this color quickly, but they also offer it in “butterfly tomboy” and “prairie rose black” and both are really cute IMO.

I just wanted a lighter color dress as it feels so much more summery. I can see the darker versions being perfect for the renewed trend of wearing a spaghetti strap dress over a thin tee. Remember that from the 90’s and early 00’s? That’s fashion for you – everything comes back in style at some point!

The pattern makes me so happy! It’s just so cheerful and feminine – right up my alley. I think one could definitely get away with wearing this to a wedding. It is white, but the large floral print prevents it from looking like you’re trying to one up the bride. We would never! Right? 😉

I’ve wanted a white patterned dress that’s easy to wear for a long time now and this fits the bill 100%! I really like the fact that it has one side slit. The “M slit” style (where it has a slit on each side and then a little strip of material in front) is super cute, but I already have a few with that feature and it can sometimes make me feel overexposed.

The single slit allows for a little more ease when walking and ups the saucy factor, yet doesn’t scream “sexy” like some double slit dresses do. Those certainly have their place, but I think the single slit makes this dress super versatile.

I wore this the other day with a pair of low heeled wedge sandals and it looked great, but I wanted to dress it up a bit for this post so I paired it with my awesome ankle strap heels (mine are sold out, but the black patent is still available). Just swap the heels for sandals and throw a denim jacket around your shoulders or waist and this dress goes from a little fancy to a cute everyday look.

Ok, now to the only downside – it wrinkles horribly! I sprayed it like crazy with Downy’s Wrinkle Releaser, which helped, but the second I sat down again the wrinkles came right back. I actually think I over-sprayed it because it grew and grew during the course of this shoot. All in all I say – still worth it!

How cute is this little pond BTW? It’s a few neighborhoods away from my place and there are ducks and turtles galore! They were all very sweet – the turtles came up to us right away. I think they were expecting to be fed. Sorry I didn’t come prepared guys!

What’s your favorite type of floral?

Thank you so much for visiting! Until next time my friends…XO

Pleats for Days

I’m quickly becoming a Donna Morgan dress addict. Thank goodness Lord & Taylor eventually slashes their prices so I can snap them up for around $30 instead of $130.

The price on this pleated midi dress gone up a bit since I bought it, but it’s still a steal for under $40 right now (use code LABORDAY)! FYI all clearance items are 25% off and all other items are 20% off this weekend. There are limited sizes available there so you can also get this lovely dress here and here (both on sale!).

It’s also available in a pink version and this version with a bolder print. It took me quite a while to decide which I liked best, but I’m glad I got the one I did. The print and colors make me happy – ’nuff said.

I still find that Shoptagr is the way to go as the prices will usually drop around the weekend, but I don’t want to have to constantly be checking. Instead I add the item I want in my desired size and color, wait for an email from Shoptagr telling me it’s on sale, and then immediately snap it up for a steal. Getting items for way cheaper than the original price thrills me!

I wore this dress to my doctor’s appointment (had to get a biometric screening for work) and in the space of 1 hour I got three compliments – one of which was from my male doctor. I’d call that a good day 😉 Doesn’t it feel extra special when a guy notices your clothes? I hate to stereotype, but they don’t always seem to notice stuff like that.

I love the way this dress looks with my nude ankle strap sandals (my color is now sold out, but the nude patent version is very similar), but it also goes well with wedges and flat sandals. It could easy go more boho with more jewelry and less dressed up accessories. I forgot to take pics with it untied, but it also looks really great that way.

Of course I had to pair it with my new bag – which I am still in love with! The mushroom color is such a great neutral, I’ve found it goes with seriously everything, Score! The cheapest price I found today is here (under $110!). They offer it in black, red, and putty and I think all those colors would be great investments.

I wore this dress to dinner with a friend last week and paired it with my go-to denim jacket, but it was just too hot to add a layer when we shot these pics. It would look AWESOME with this one (under $55). It’s been around 100 degrees lately here in SD, but I keep seeing people posting fall outfits on social media. Not with this heat wave!

In the past I’ve stayed away from halter tops as they can sometimes make one’s shoulders look bigger and over accentuate the bust, but I felt like this one really worked. Alas, it requires a strapless bra, but it’s still worth it.

What’s your take on pleats? Some people say they add bulk, but small ones these don’t seem to have that problem. I’ve been on the lookout for a pleated skirt so when I find the right one you’ll see it here!

Much love, Kate
