Vince Camuto Francia Booties

While I looove Vince Camuto’s handbags (see mine in previous posts  here, here, here, and here) I’ve never actually bought any of the brand’s shoes…until I caught sight of these booties in Nordie’s clearance section.

Good news, they are still 50% off and come in 4 great colors! I was blown away by how comfortable they are. And so darn cute to boot 😉 They might give my Sam Edelman bootie collection a run for it’s money.

These heels are a little on the high side for booties, but that just adds to the flattering factor if you ask me. I’ve walked in them quite a bit and they are actually quite comfy, due to the padded foot bed.

It took me a minute to figure out what kind of socks to wear with them due to the low cut sides, but ultra low peds are perfect!  I learned a long time ago not to skip socks unless you want your shoes to stink, yuck.

My jacket is pretty old, but I found some really good looking grey moto jackets in leather (an investment for sure, this one is at a slightly lower price point) and faux lather. And how cute is this one in black from Target? What a deal!

My jeans are actually “jeggings” from American Eagle.  This particular rinse is not available anymore, but there are soo many good ones to choose from! This one and this one are both on my wishlist and this one is a really fun alternative to denim.

I almost always pair this jacket with a plaid shirt and this one is my favorite. Unfortunately it’s no longer available, but all these plaid shirts (also from B.P at Nordstrom) are all super cute and on sale! You can also find great plaids at American Eagle (get 25% off your entire purchase until 1/23 with code: SAVE25).  Plaid shirts are such a staple! I wear them all the time with denim or leggings.

These booties look fab with any kind of pants, but I also love how they look with dresses. Especially basic/classic, casual dresses like the ones from Leith. I’ve wanted this one for a while and I think they would look awesome together.

I usually wait for things to go on sale before buying them, but Leith dresses are so affordable that they don’t go on sale often. If you like one snap it up in your size when you can! Although if they go out of stock they often eventually come back in different colors. FYI the sizing is on the big side so I usually wear a M.

Do you have a favorite brand for boots and booties? If so I’d love to hear about it. Have a beautiful day my friends!

XO, Kate

Sheer to See Through

Full disclosure, I was not aware of  how see through this top was until I reviewed the pictures. And I’ve had it for years! Even my husband/photog didn’t think it was quite this sheer until he looked at the pics on my computer. Keep in mind all this is after I spent an hour on the side of the Freeway waiting to see the firefighters’ procession.

I thought this would be a good topic to explore here on the blog. Here’s a great illustration of the sheer/not so sheer look, depending on lighting:

Have you ever had that happen? It’s actually pretty common. Full daylight can make things look a lot different than indoor lighting. Additionally, cameras – especially when you use a flash – can sometimes cause one to look overexposed. There are many articles online that show sheer blouse mishaps. Google it, the pics are great hehe.

This really made me think. Would I choose to wear the same outfit again, knowing that it was basically see through? It seems like a simple question, but it brings up a lot of variables: confidence, social standards, etc. To my  surprise, I realized that I would wear it again. I guess I’m getting ballsier in my old age 😉

Of course I initially thought, “but I don’t have a model’s body” and all those other things that run through one’s mind. But I like the outfit, Leo liked the outfit, and I felt good in it so…as long as the sun is down or going down I’d do a repeat.

This outfit is so “covered up” that I felt it worked overall, but generally speaking full daylight is not the time to go super sheer. And of course it goes without saying that this is NOT office appropriate. If one does wear something sheer I also think it’s important to limit it to one item per outfit and avoid wearing a lacy/patterned bra to keep it from being overly sexy. Unless you’re in Vegas of course!

I’d love to hear if you agree or your counter argument in the comments.

Unfortunately this top is too old to find online, but I found this sheer bodysuit and I am obsessed! I already put it in my cart for later. And this is an adorable short sleeved option, while this is a super cute plus size option. If you’re thinking you need a base layer I highly recommend this cami, it’s a steal. If you have room in your budget, Cami NYC is universally recognized as being “the” place to buy quality camisoles.

You can still grab these (waterproof!!) OTK boots here. They are amazing! Not only are they stretchy, so they fit a wide array of ladies, but they also stay up and are crazy comfortable. I was stoked I had room to layer them over my fav, fully opaque Zella leggings (currently 25% of!). Buy these, you won’t regret it! I might just get a backup pair while they’re on sale…

You can still find this bag a few places online, even though I bought it over a year ago. It is amazing! I am still in love with the classic look, braided details, and the fact that it still looks brand new.

My necklace is no longer available, but this one is very similar and here’s a whole page of layered necklaces at a realistic price point. I want this one, but I’m trying very hard to resist. Layered necklaces is a trend I can for sure get behind!

Yep, that’s a see through shirt right there lol

Merry Christmas Eve, if you celebrate it. If not, happy Sunday! Much love, Kate

90’s Style Updated

To me nothing says 90’s fashion more than a slip dress, combat boots, and a moto jacket so when I put on this outfit I flashed right back to the days of Daria, 10 Things I Hate About You, and Clueless. How I love/d all three of those!

Sadly this dress from Nasty Gal is selling out quickly and there are only a couple sizes left (the size 10 fit me great, FYI). However, it’s a great, much less expensive option if you like the style of the “Sydney” dress from Sanctuary. They both have a subtle 90’s vibe. This is another affordable option. See my recent post on the white version of the Sydney dress here.

You could go all out with combat boots and a flannel around your waist or give it a bit of 2017 update like I did. I guess I didn’t pay attention to the description as I expected it to be the kind of polyester that doesn’t stretch, but it’s quite stretchy. I have actually worn it more as a nightgown than a dress lately. It’s so comfy!

I don’t know how long they plan to offer it, but they are offering 50% off of all orders on Nastygal.com. Score! One thing to note – my order shipped from the UK. It arrived in a reasonable amount of time and it was kind of fun to have something ship from another country, but it was a little unexpected.

I haven’t ordered anything from them in a few years, but last time it shipped from within the US. I guess they’ve made some changes because I noticed that the sizing on the tag is in UK sizing, even though the sizes listed online are the US equivalent.

I am so loving this cooler weather! I’ve really been looking forward to wearing my jackets and sweaters. While it’s not all that cold during the day (except today – it’s raining!) it is starting to feel like fall and I can usually add a layer in the evenings.

So of course I had to break out my oxblood suede jacket! One of the best things about buying classic pieces is that you don’t have to “retire” them after 1 or 2 years. This almost red/almost brown color is perfect for fall and goes with just about anything.

While this exact jacket is no longer available, I spotted this faux leather jacket at Express and I can see it being perfect for fall. It has 10 5 star reviews for a reason! I also think this open front moto jacket is super cool. The sizes are limited in the oxblood color, but there are some other colors to choose from.

I have gotten so much wear out of these booties, they are surprisingly comfortable for the height! Politics aside, Ivanka Trump does have some pretty cute shoes in her line.

My awesome Vince Camuto “Ayla” Satchel is still available – and it’s on sale! I highly recommend it. I’ve had it for close to a year now and it still looks pristine. Satchels (with a shoulder strap) have become my favorite style of bag due to their versatility. Is it just me or do some purses fall right off your shoulder too? Grr.

These pics were taken right before the hubs and I went out for dinner and I’d forgotten what a beautiful time of day “golden hour” is. It’s hard to take a bad shot with such pretty and soft lighting.

Although reviewing these pics really reminded me that I need to smile in my photos. You have probably heard of resting bitch face, but I’m afflicted by it’s cousin – resting sad face. If I’m just chillin’ somewhere, in my own little world I often get comments like, “what’s wrong?” And “are you ok?” Lol

What are you most excited to wear now that it’s officially fall?

Thanks so much for visiting! I hope you come back soon!

Keeping it Causal in All Neutrals

I feel like neutrals can get a bad rap – like they should always be in the background or something. However, I find that most of my closet is neutral colors and that’s just fine by me! FYI traditional neutrals are grey, olive green, black, brown, white, and navy. Yes, adding a pop of color can make an outfit more visually interesting, but neutrals can stand on their own too.

One tip for elevating an outfit full of neutrals is to add a “completer piece.” Does anyone else remember this term from What Not to Wear? I miss that show, I learned so much about figure flattering fashion from watching it! Anyway, a completer piece is that extra layer or bold accessory that takes a somewhat basic look to a look that really draws attention.

In the case of this outfit the completer piece would be my straw hat. This one was a random $5 purchase from AE’s clearance section to get free shipping, but I ended up loving it! A boater hat is a great choice for summer and they come in many styles.

This one is so cute! I love the crochet band. And this one is a great classic option. The site listed mine as a wide brim fedora, but it’s actually more of a boater hat due to the flat crown (top) and brim. This one is very affordable and this super wide brim boater hat would work for many women.

In fall/winter I usually go for extra layers of warmth as my completer pieces, but when the temps rise, lightweight accessories just make more sense. This is a very causal look, but the nude, low heels, bag, and hat take it up a notch or two.

This outfit would work just as well with flats, but I chose these low block heeled pumps to give me a bit of extra length in my legs – and they feel like flats! I seriously can’t stop wearing them.

IMO heels are like lipstick – they take some getting used to if they’re not something you usually wear, but they quickly become staples and you end up wondering why you went without for so long. You just have to try them on, possibly add some extra cushioning, and make sure the fit is right. Blisters/pain are no fun at all. Obvi!

I just happened to stumble upon my purse for a steal when I saw the mini version of my Rebecca Minkoff “love” bag go on sale during Nordstrom’s anniversary sale that just ended. Mine is the middle size and they also sell a jumbo sized one. I always do that – when I see something I like online I immediately do a web search for the same item and see what comes up.

Nine out of ten times I find it somewhere else for a lower price! FYI the price has gone up a bit, but it’s still on sale and you can get 15% of your first purchase by signing up for their emails. I have already worn the heck out of this bag and I just got it a few weeks ago. It’s so versatile due to the color and you can wear it 3 ways!

My tee is a favorite – I wear it all the time. I also like the raw edge side slit tee Lush just came out with. You can never have too many great tees!

I looked around and while my shorts don’t seem to be available online anymore (they’re a rare in-store purchase from Express), I found this pair and this pair. Both of which seem awesome! I’m all about comfort whenever possible and this type of unstructured short feels amazing on a hot day. I could seriously sleep in it. Sounds a little weird, but that’s a super useful feature when traveling.

What’s your favorite way to jazz up an outfit?

See you soon friend! Love, Kate

Dressing up Denim Shorts

This summer has been really humid so far, it’s been really weird! We’re usually on the dryer side here so this weather actually has been giving me a tropical getaway kind of vibe – which is fine by me! It’s probably a good thing as we’re approaching fire season. To beat the heat I’ve been all about flowy tops and shorts lately.

I’m not usually one to wear heels with shorts, but I just can’t do jeans in this weather and for some reason I just haven’t been wearing dresses as much as usual. So I thought I’d create a date night look using one of my favorite pairs of shorts.

These shorts are super soft and I love the slightly longer length. There’s a reason this pair has a cumulative review of 5 stars. American Eagle’s Denim X is where it’s at! I can’t believe I spent so many years wearing jeans that have no give. No more my friends!

I showcased this double layer cami from Express in an earlier post and while it’s no longer available Express has some other really cute options right now. Here are my top picks: 1, 2, 3.

You can’t go wrong with a black cami, it’s so versatile! Just make sure you invest in  a good strapless bra – visible bra straps kill a look so quickly. This one is my fav for good support and comfort.

How fun are these colorful heels? I’m obsessed with the embroidery. Even though they’re pretty darn high, they’re more comfortable than you’d think thanks to some well placed padding.

I don’t think the pictures online do them justice. Check out the reviews, others seem to love them too! FYI they are available in wide, woo hoo!

And of course what says summer ’17 more than a great pair of tassel earrings? These are from F21 and sold out quickly, but I found these, these, and these that are similar and also very cute. They add instant pizazz to any basic look.

What’s your favorite summertime look?

Thanks for visiting! Kisses, Kate

Spring Fling Dress, Part Deux

This pretty little number is one of the three versions (same cut, different colors/patterns) of this Sanctuary dress that I currently own. I posted about one of the other ones here. There are so many different versions available and almost all of them are on sale!

I also own the midnight garden color, which is perfect for Independence Day and it’s on sale (also available here). I really love it in the sun bleached tile, cameo pink sprout, and bluebelle as well. I haven’t seen one I don’t like! There are almost too many too choose from 😉 The shape, dual layers, and pleating at the bust and on the back are my favorite features.

Owning 3 versions of the same dress might sound like overkill, but the fit is so comfortable and flattering – plus I was able to snag them for much, much less than the original price.

I mentioned this bag (on sale for $30 right now!) in a recent post and I still love it! It really does go with just about anything and the multicolored tassel detail gives it a little something extra. Plus it can be worn in multiple ways due to the adjustable strap.

I’ve mentioned this in previous posts, but Shoptagr.com is my secret weapon for snagging the stuff I want at deep discounts. Just install a button on your web toolbar, save items that catch your eye, and they’ll alert you when they go on sale in your size. Could it get any easier?

I’ve saved massive amounts of money using this free service. Now I just can’t justify paying full price for anything. I usually will add items to my list and then when I get an alert I will have had enough time to decide if I really want it. Then I can delete it or take the plunge. It’s a good system! A cooling off period is never a bad idea when one has a budget to stick to.

These shoeties are from my recent shopping bonanza at DSW over Memorial Day weekend. I was blown away by the deals and this pair is a particular favorite. They are crazy comfortable, even at a heel height of 3.5″. I was SO tempted to buy them in grey as well, but I came to my senses. I might snap them up at some point down the line – even at full price they are only $65. Say what?!

This bracelet (also available in other colors) is a recent impulse buy and I’ve found myself wearing it a lot. I usually stick to pretty understated jewelry and let my clothes and shoes do the talking.

Speaking of accessories, this yarn belt came with a different dress, but I loved how it looked with this dress. It brought out the colors in the dress and accentuated the waist, which is always a good thing! I can see this being an easy DIY project. Just braid 2-3 pieces of yarn together and boom – you’ve got a belt.

This necklace is from INC’s Mix and Match Charm Necklace Collection from Macy’s (on sale!). You can use the chain over and over and just swap out the pendant for some variety. Once again, I love versatility! How do you get the most bang for your buck when shopping?

Thanks for stopping by! Much love, Kate

Making June Gloom a Little Less Gloomy

Can you believe it was 64 degrees when we shot these pics? That feels crazy as so many places are getting hot right now. However, it was a great opportunity to pull out my Free People “Malibu” thermal one last time before it warms up. FYI Nordies still has brown in stock for only $40 and this site has a bunch of colors, almost all of which are on sale!

I also have the “Sunset Park” and I almost bought the “Kate.” Free people makes great thermals and they come out with a new version each year. I love how the back of this thermal just hangs. It’s also extremely comfortable. Just make sure to hand wash it or use a washing bag to keep it from fraying like crazy.

Almost all FP stuff tends to be oversized so if you don’t size down the neckline can dip a little low. I like to wear a lacy cami underneath so it can peek out a bit and my new cami from Express was perfect! I saw it’s only available in M in black right now, but the “chianti” and “cardinal red” are both cute and still available. Here’s an affordable option that would probably be great for layering.

These low block heel pumps are not a style I would normally go for, but since they were an exact match for my skin tone, have a flattering pointy toe, and I found them in the clearance section of DSW over Memorial Day weekend I just couldn’t resist taking them home with me. They are so darn comfortable I can see myself wearing them quite a bit. Probably next time with a dress.

My jeans are from a while ago, but AE still offers some very similar styles. This one is the closest to mine (40% off and still available in a few sizes), this is a cute cropped option (currently 50% off), and this is a similar pair without the rips (40% off, only a few sizes available).

Keep in mind that the distressing varies from jean to jean so the rips/distressing might look a little different than the pictures online. I love a cropped or ankle jean for showing off great footwear!

What’s your go-to gloomy day outfit?

Thanks for stopping by! Have a great day!

A Pop of Cognac

I see this faux leather jacket so often on Pinterest and Instagram that I think it’s safe to say it’s attained cult favorite status. I bought it a few years back so Nordie’s doesn’t currently have it available in this color, but they still offer it in black. It’s arguably even cuter in black! I’ve also seen it in blush in the past and wish I had snapped it up while I had the chance!

I love that it fits closely to the body – boxy does not work on me – and that it’s lightweight, but doesn’t look super cheap. The zippers and shape give it a sexy edge and it can be worn with a variety of outfits. I rarely pay full price for anything, but this gem might just be worth it.

Cognac is such a classy color, this jacket was a great way to add a little color to this all black look I wore recently. The weather has been vacillating between “May grey” to sunny so it’s nice to have a lightweight jacket for when the marine layer rolls in.

I haven’t worn it enough to know personally, but I’ve heard from some other bloggers that it gets even softer with time. That’s quite a feat for a faux leather jacket!

My Jeffrey Campbell shoes are an ooollllld purchase and I haven’t seen any look-a-likes in a while, but I did find some similar options in a few heel heights (low, higher, and highest). I love the idea of a “shootie,” as I always feel more stable in a heel that straps me in. The platform makes these heels comfy enough to walk around in all day long!

I’ve searched for years for a basic black camisole that checks all my boxes (not too tight in the bust, not too low that it’s hard to find an appropriate strapless bra, not too long). This one did so I wanted to share it with y’all.

I can already tell it’s going to be a staple in my coset. I can’t wait to wear it under a sweater with a deep v and with distressed jeans and my suede oxblood moto jacket (FYI the suede jacket is still available in M and it’s on sale!).

I definitely prefer cognac to most other brown tones. What about you – what’s your favorite neutral?

Thanks for visiting, see you soon!

The Oh-So Trendy Neckerchief

Welcome to my bandito moment! Lol

I’ve been looking to get more creative with my scarves (usually I’ll just tie one on my bags to add a little extra pizazz to a simple outfit as shown in the pic below) as I have so many of them lying around and it was fun to try this trend. I’m not one to jump on every trend that comes around, but I have to say I liked this look more than I thought I would.

Jean from www.extrapetite.com turned me on to this scarf from Express and it’s so cute! The also offer it in black and white. I love the pattern and colors – I have a feeling I’ll get a lot of use from it. It can also be tied around the neck like a choker, worn around the wrist or arm, wrapped around the handle of a bag, or even as a headband…there are lots of possibilities!

This sleeveless top (under $11 and available in 4 colors!) is a recent find and I am in love! It may sound weird to be obsessed with such a simple top, but as they say, it’s all in the details. I find myself returning to classic pieces more often than anything else so a good white/off white/ivory tank is a necessity. I have others that are okay, but this one is perfect!

It has 2 layers so it’s not see through, the back has a little button up top so it’s easy to get it on and off without getting makeup everywhere, it washes really well if you hang it dry, it has a flattering V-neck, it’s soft and silky, and – best of all – it doesn’t require a strapless bra. Hallelujah! I actually have a fantastic strapless bra, but let’s not kid ourselves, no strapless bra is as comfortable as a traditional bra. The Body by Victoria line makes the most comfortable bras, hands down. They make up the bulk of my bra collection.

It felt like summer for all of this week until today so I’ve been wearing shorts a lot. These are my go-to light wash pair. They’re from a past season, but I’ve listed look-a-likes here and here. Keep in mind the distressing varies a bit from pair to pair. I really like the midi lengths American Eagle offers. I just cannot do the super short shorts that seem to be so popular these days. Every girl should own at least a light wash pair and a dark wash pair IMO.

I broke out an old Steven by Steve Madden bag that’s been collecting dust in my closet and I’d forgotten how good the quality is within the Steven line! This bag is about 7 years old now and it still looks great. The only upkeep I’ve done is to slap on some leather conditioner (it also cleans the leather). The Steven bags and shoes are at a slightly higher price point, but they usually have a correspondingly higher level of quality and materials. How cute are these options (1, 2, 3, 4)??! And I can see this block heeled pump being a super chic work option.

This is totally unrelated to anything else in this post, but I spotted this  adorable pom pom block heeled sandal today while putting this post together and I immediately wished I had it in my closet. I can’t buy anything right now, but man do I want it! It’s 30% off right now due to Macy’s friends and family sale (FYI it ends May 7th). Just like how Steve Madden has different lines, Sam Edelman has a lower priced line of shoes and bags called Circus.

What are your thoughts on the neckerchief trend? I’d love to hear from you in the comments. Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Oxblood Suede Quilted Moto Jacket

Hey! Thanks for visiting my little corner of the internet.

I love this jacket!! I actually heard about it through Erica at www.fashionedchic.com. She has such awesome style!! I snagged it when it went on super sale during the holidays and I’m so glad I did! I usually stick to faux leather jackets, but this just feels SO much better than the faux stuff and I can tell it will really last.

Oxblood is such a great color and – as Mugatu from Zoolander would say – “it’s so hot right now.” It’s stands out a little more than your standard neutrals like black and brown, but it still feels like a neutral as it goes with almost anything! I get a lot of compliments on this one!

And guess what, it’s on **sale** and there are still some sizes left! This style was also offered in a brown color, but I tried it on in the store and it just wasn’t anything special. So far I’ve paired it with my go-to Old Navy Rockstar ripped blue skinnies and a white tee, with high waisted jeans and a bodysuit, a black lace dress, and this all black(ish) look. I love them all! It’s so freaking versatile.

Do you like my, “I’m on the phone” look? Lol! Trying to mix it up 😉

Lately I’ve been loving the half up topknot, it’s a great way to get my hair out of my face without putting it all up. Does anyone else feel like they look kind of bald with it all up? My fine haired sistas likely feel me on this!

By the by, these pics were taken in South Park and we stumbled upon the most interesting little shops while we were there. If you happen to be in the area you have to check out Tend. They have these super cool plant art pieces where the plans look alive, but they are actually preserved with glycerin. No upkeep! Plus the owner is super freaking awesome. Talk about good vibes…

Okay, enough blabbing. Later gators!
