Free People Retro Love Suede Dress

Can you believe I’ve had this dress for a year and this is the first time I’ve worn it?! It might just be my favorite blog look so far. After it sold out I wasn’t sure if Free People would bring it back the following season (like they so often do with their most popular dresses), but they have! They aren’t offering it in the color I have – rose – but they have 7 colors to choose from! I think the soft peach is to die for!

You might be wondering if a suede dress is functional and I can tell you it IS! Not only is it a steal, considering Free People’s pricing, but it’s comfortable and it has pockets! Once I got past the unusual-ness of the material I was hooked. Because it’s real suede it has just enough shape without being too structured. I’m in love!

What is it about suede that just feels super luxe? Is it just me?

At first I wasn’t sure how I’d accessorize it as there are so many options. It was popular amongst bloggers last year and I saw many ladies styled it with more mod accessories (it looks awesome with a turtleneck underneath) or with sneakers for a more casual vibe.

However, I wanted more of a rocker/boho look so I paired it with my fav booties (unfortunately black leather is no longer available, but there are still two suede options) and my new Sam Edelman bag that I snagged from the clearance section of DSW. What a find that was!

Of curse no boho look would be complete without a hat (haha), so I threw on my Free People Matador hat and I really liked the overall look. This particular hat is no longer available, but I found two lookalike options: 1 2. I also really like this felt hat, I can see it going with a lot.

Do you own any suede or leather items of clothing? I haven’t branched out into anything beyond this dress and moto jackets…yet!

Have a wonderful day! I hope to see you again soon!

90’s Style Updated

To me nothing says 90’s fashion more than a slip dress, combat boots, and a moto jacket so when I put on this outfit I flashed right back to the days of Daria, 10 Things I Hate About You, and Clueless. How I love/d all three of those!

Sadly this dress from Nasty Gal is selling out quickly and there are only a couple sizes left (the size 10 fit me great, FYI). However, it’s a great, much less expensive option if you like the style of the “Sydney” dress from Sanctuary. They both have a subtle 90’s vibe. This is another affordable option. See my recent post on the white version of the Sydney dress here.

You could go all out with combat boots and a flannel around your waist or give it a bit of 2017 update like I did. I guess I didn’t pay attention to the description as I expected it to be the kind of polyester that doesn’t stretch, but it’s quite stretchy. I have actually worn it more as a nightgown than a dress lately. It’s so comfy!

I don’t know how long they plan to offer it, but they are offering 50% off of all orders on Nastygal.com. Score! One thing to note – my order shipped from the UK. It arrived in a reasonable amount of time and it was kind of fun to have something ship from another country, but it was a little unexpected.

I haven’t ordered anything from them in a few years, but last time it shipped from within the US. I guess they’ve made some changes because I noticed that the sizing on the tag is in UK sizing, even though the sizes listed online are the US equivalent.

I am so loving this cooler weather! I’ve really been looking forward to wearing my jackets and sweaters. While it’s not all that cold during the day (except today – it’s raining!) it is starting to feel like fall and I can usually add a layer in the evenings.

So of course I had to break out my oxblood suede jacket! One of the best things about buying classic pieces is that you don’t have to “retire” them after 1 or 2 years. This almost red/almost brown color is perfect for fall and goes with just about anything.

While this exact jacket is no longer available, I spotted this faux leather jacket at Express and I can see it being perfect for fall. It has 10 5 star reviews for a reason! I also think this open front moto jacket is super cool. The sizes are limited in the oxblood color, but there are some other colors to choose from.

I have gotten so much wear out of these booties, they are surprisingly comfortable for the height! Politics aside, Ivanka Trump does have some pretty cute shoes in her line.

My awesome Vince Camuto “Ayla” Satchel is still available – and it’s on sale! I highly recommend it. I’ve had it for close to a year now and it still looks pristine. Satchels (with a shoulder strap) have become my favorite style of bag due to their versatility. Is it just me or do some purses fall right off your shoulder too? Grr.

These pics were taken right before the hubs and I went out for dinner and I’d forgotten what a beautiful time of day “golden hour” is. It’s hard to take a bad shot with such pretty and soft lighting.

Although reviewing these pics really reminded me that I need to smile in my photos. You have probably heard of resting bitch face, but I’m afflicted by it’s cousin – resting sad face. If I’m just chillin’ somewhere, in my own little world I often get comments like, “what’s wrong?” And “are you ok?” Lol

What are you most excited to wear now that it’s officially fall?

Thanks so much for visiting! I hope you come back soon!

INC Yvvon Crossbody Bag

I haven’t bought cheaper (non leather) bags in the last few years as I really value quality items that last, but I made an exception for this bag.   It’s also offered in velvet, with a gold tassel, and in a couple of colors in a very similar version with a turn lock instead of the tassel. All of them are on sale right now!

Apparently it’s a dupe for a much more expensive Rebecca Minkoff bag. Thanks reviewer for the info! I really like that it’s structured enough that it retains it’s shape and it goes with a lot of different outfits. Plus the multicolored tassel is a fun detail.

I am all about versatility so when I realized that it could be worn as a crossbody or a shoulder bag I was in! You can also tuck the strap in and use it as a clutch. 3 purses in 1?? Yes please!

My shirt dress is no longer available, but I’ve listed some similar dresses here, here, and here. And here’s a similar option for the petite ladies out there.

These booties are older and only available in size 10 and 11 at this point, but I’ve listed my top picks for black booties here (50% off!), here (62% off!) and here (59% off!).

What’s your favorite type of purse (Crossbody, tote, satchel, shoulder bag)? Or are you a backpack person?

Thanks so much for visiting!! I hope you come back soon!

A Boho Kind of Day

Are you a hat person? I never really was until recently. Hats seem to be making a real comeback and I’m all about it!

I recently purchased this dress, which is currently on sale at Macy’s (also available in black) and at Bloomies for under $50 (best deal I could find right now) with a gift card I had saved since my birthday. When Shoptagr alerted me that it had dropped from $129 to $45 I jumped on it and I’m so glad I did! It’s comfy and flowy and I feel great it it! It comes with a detachable black v neck slip that I can wear with a lot of other things, so that was a nice bonus!

Once I had it on I knew it would be something I would wear over and over again. For a long time I bought things that were “a good deal,” but too often they would just sit in my closet unworn. I noticed that I had 2 issues: I’d buy things that were meant for occasions that didn’t really make sense with my lifestyle and I’d buy cheap things impulsively because the deal seemed so good.

Now that I keep a running list of items in my phone that I’d like to eventually buy to round out my wardrobe I find that I am much less impulsive with my shopping. And I actually want to wear ALL of my stuff. Eureka!!

I felt like this dress needed a little extra oomph so I grabbed my Free People Matador Hat, which has really served me well! It’s only available in one size and was a little loose so I had to get a little crafty to get the snug fit I needed – windy days would rip it right off my head. I ended up putting a foam strip with adhesive on the back that I randomly found in my house along the inner lining (I think they were leftover from installing my window A/C unit). Voila, fixed!

I would like to wear hats more often, but I sometimes end up feeling like I stick out a little too much. And I’m never really sure if I should take it off or leave it on indoors. A quick web search told me that most people just keep them on no matter where they go, FYI. Looking at these pictures now I’m even more inspired to wear hats. I like the look!

The only downside to this dress IMO is that it wrinkles easily. I have a steamer, which I 100% prefer to ironing, but still. Ugh, dealing with wrinkles is no fun. In this case I decided it’s still worth keeping, even though the dress started out wrinkle free before we got in the car to shoot these pics. Oh well, you can’t have everything I guess.

I hope you’re not sick of seeing this purse lol. Because it goes well with so much of what I own it’s on repeat. It was a great investment!

Smell ya later!

New Haircut, New Year

OMG I cannot describe how good it feels to have finally gotten a haircut! I am so bad about getting my hair done; I noticed that my last cut was in March of this year – eek! I just can’t handle long hair. It’s too high maintenance, plus my hair is so fine that it just hangs there once it gets past my shoulders. I felt like a weight had been lifted off of my shoulders when the hair started to fall to the floor.

Thanks Toi (my stylist at Hair by Stacie in Miramar) for knowing exactly how to translate what I want into a cut that works for my face! After being blonde pretty much all my life at my last few appointments I tried to embrace my light brown roots, but blonde just feels more like me.

Anyway, on to my birthday outfit! I celebrated with my man and my good friend Sarah at Fred’s in Old Town and had a blast drinking and eating too much. Thanks Sarah for always being willing to shoot some pictures for me! And thanks babe for the sweet treats!

I have been thoroughly enjoying wearing coats lately – as it’s actually been cold enough – and I couldn’t resist a few shots with the signature blogger “coat draped over the shoulders” pose. This is another Burlington find from way back when (likely at least 6 years ago). Since my coats don’t get much wear in sunny CA they seem to last forever! This Miss Sixty Coat still looks brand new and stylish all these years later.

I love this Sanctuary dress, not only is it super soft and comfortable, but it’s pretty flattering as well! Being a little busty I had to get a little DIY and use double sided tape to prevent any gapping in between the buttons near my bust. Worked like a charm! I get a lot of compliments on this one. Another great Macy’s steal! It’s currently on sale in this color at Nordstrom Rack and in Laurent Plaid at Sanctuary’s website). Both colors are great IMO.

Happy New Year!!!

Leith Midi Sweater Dress

Who says you can’t wear black with navy? I wore this outfit on Saturday and I felt so comfortable and chic all day long! Can you beat that mix? I think not. I was a little unsure about this dress when I bought it online last year (size S, it runs big, I’m usually a M in Leith – thanks reviewers!!), but it was a great purchase. I’ve worn it quite a bit already and it it’s actually pretty darn flattering. The ribbing helps disguise any post-lunch “food babies.”

My new Vince Camuto Ayla Satchel makes me feel so ladylike and I got an incredible deal! It’s the perfect mix of boho and classic – love the braid detail – and the quality is great! I think this one will last a very long time. I’m new to Vince Camuto purses, but I am definitely a fan!

These Ivanka Trump booties (currently 40% off!) were such a good buy – not only do I wear them constantly, but they are super easy to walk in all day long. No joke! A 3″ heel is usually my max and these are 3″, but somehow they feel like a lower heel. I wanted a bootie that was a little less casual than my Sam Edelman booties and these pointed toe babies fit the bill perfectly. I even got a “nice shoes” shout out from some guy driving by. Money well spent indeed lol!

It was a pretty cold day by San Diego standards so I was stoked to be able to layer. Layering is a great way to add visual interest to an outfit!

I bought this BNCI by Blanc Noir faux leather jacket a few years back from Nordstrom Rack and I find myself wearing it over and over. I always get compliments and it’s a little more substantial than your typical faux leather jacket, which is nice! I can’t really afford real leather so this is a great compromise! Pus it adds a little “edge” to whatever I pair it with.

Thanks for stopping by!
