Sanctuary “Sydney” Dress

I’d had this dress on my Shoptagr list for a long time so I did not hesitate to snap it up when I got the notification that it went on sale. I LOVE the pattern and cut. It’s selling out in this color quickly, but they also offer it in “butterfly tomboy” and “prairie rose black” and both are really cute IMO.

I just wanted a lighter color dress as it feels so much more summery. I can see the darker versions being perfect for the renewed trend of wearing a spaghetti strap dress over a thin tee. Remember that from the 90’s and early 00’s? That’s fashion for you – everything comes back in style at some point!

The pattern makes me so happy! It’s just so cheerful and feminine – right up my alley. I think one could definitely get away with wearing this to a wedding. It is white, but the large floral print prevents it from looking like you’re trying to one up the bride. We would never! Right? ūüėČ

I’ve wanted a white patterned dress that’s easy to wear for a long time now and this fits the bill 100%! I really like the fact that it has one side slit. The “M slit” style (where it has a slit on each side and then a little strip of material in front) is super cute, but I already have a few with that feature and it can sometimes make me feel overexposed.

The single slit allows for a little more ease when walking and ups the saucy factor, yet doesn’t scream “sexy” like some double slit dresses do. Those certainly have their place, but I think the single slit makes this dress super versatile.

I wore this the other day with a pair of low heeled wedge sandals and it looked great, but I wanted to dress it up a bit for this post so I paired it with my awesome ankle strap heels (mine are sold out, but the black patent is still available). Just swap the heels for sandals and throw a denim jacket around your shoulders or waist and this dress goes from a little fancy to a cute everyday look.

Ok, now to the only downside – it wrinkles horribly! I sprayed it like crazy with Downy’s Wrinkle Releaser, which helped, but the second I sat down again the wrinkles came right back. I actually think I over-sprayed it because it grew and grew during the course of this shoot. All in all I say – still worth it!

How cute is this little pond BTW? It’s a few neighborhoods away from my place and there are ducks and turtles galore! They were all very sweet – the turtles came up to us right away. I think they were expecting to be fed. Sorry I didn’t come prepared guys!

What’s your favorite type of floral?

Thank you so much for visiting! Until next time my friends…XO

Spring Fling Dress, Part Deux

This pretty little number is one of the three versions (same cut, different colors/patterns) of this Sanctuary dress that I currently own. I posted about one of the other ones here. There are so many different versions available and almost all of them are on sale!

I also own the midnight garden color, which is perfect for Independence Day and it’s on sale (also available here). I really love it in the¬†sun bleached tile, cameo pink sprout, and bluebelle as well. I haven’t seen one I don’t like! There are almost too many too choose from ūüėČ The shape, dual layers, and pleating at the bust and on the back are my favorite features.

Owning 3 versions of the same dress might sound like overkill, but the fit is so comfortable and flattering – plus I was able to snag them for much, much less than the original price.

I mentioned this bag (on sale for $30 right now!) in a recent post and I still love it! It really does go with just about anything and the multicolored tassel detail gives it a little something extra. Plus it can be worn in multiple ways due to the adjustable strap.

I’ve mentioned this in previous posts, but Shoptagr.com is my secret weapon for snagging the stuff I want at deep discounts. Just install a button on your web toolbar, save items that catch your eye, and they’ll alert you when they go on sale in your size. Could it get any easier?

I’ve saved massive amounts of money using this free service. Now I just can’t justify paying full price for anything. I usually will add items to my list and then when I get an alert I will have had enough time to decide if I really want it. Then I can delete it or take the plunge. It’s a good system! A cooling off period is never a bad idea when one has a budget to stick to.

These shoeties are from my recent shopping bonanza at DSW over Memorial Day weekend. I was blown away by the deals and this pair is a particular favorite. They are crazy comfortable, even at a heel height of 3.5″. I was SO tempted to buy them in grey as well, but I came to my senses. I might snap them up at some point down the line – even at full price they are only $65. Say what?!

This bracelet¬†(also available in other colors) is a recent impulse buy and I’ve found myself wearing it a lot. I usually stick to pretty understated jewelry and let my clothes and shoes do the talking.

Speaking of accessories, this yarn belt came with a different dress, but I loved how it looked with this dress. It brought out the colors in the dress and accentuated the waist, which is always a good thing! I can see this being an easy DIY project. Just braid 2-3 pieces of yarn together and boom – you’ve got a belt.

This necklace is from INC’s Mix and Match Charm Necklace Collection¬†from Macy’s (on sale!). You can use the chain over and over and just swap out the pendant for some variety. Once again, I love versatility! How do you get the most bang for your buck when shopping?

Thanks for stopping by! Much love, Kate

Sanctuary Spring Fling Dress

This dress is yet another example of something I loved so much that I bought it in multiples. This color/pattern is no longer available, but Sanctuary offers this dress in a TON of other patterns. My top picks are Sunset Boho, Midnight Garden, Sun Bleached Tile, and Cameo Pink Sprout.

It has all the features I love – it’s comfortable, flattering, and fits me even if I go up a few pounds. I also really love that it has 2 layers. It lacks the ability to wear it with a standard bra, but I guess you can’t have everything.

To me it’s the perfect summer dress. It’s great for hot summer days, but you can also throw a leather jacket on top and poof, it’s ready for date night.

Every girl needs a good sun hat, no? I love Rag & Bone and would have loved to have bought this hat if I could swing it, but it is well outside of my price range. When I found this hat on clearance at Nordies I was stoked! It sold out quickly, but how cute are these options??

These wedges are from ages ago, but I would buy these, these (the tassel!!), and these if I needed a good neutral wedge for summer.

Sorry if this is picture overload, but the hubs and I found a place over by Lake San Marcos that offered a ridiculous amount of cute backdrops.

Sadly the Boathouse was closed when we stopped by, but I want to check it out. I am a sucker for eating by any body of water.

Is it just me or is the cutest bench ever? If I were criminally minded (don’t worry, I’m not!) I would steal this bench for my house.

What’s our favorite summer dress? Or are you more of a shorts person?

I love this last shot, but man does it remind me I need to even out my tan lines Рsheesh! Do you struggle with athletic shoe tan issues too?

Byeeee! I hope you visit again soon!

A Boho Kind of Day

Are you a hat person? I never really was until recently. Hats seem to be making a real comeback and I’m all about it!

I recently purchased¬†this dress, which is currently on sale at Macy’s (also available in black) and at¬†Bloomies¬†for under $50 (best deal I could find right now) with a gift card I had saved since my birthday. When Shoptagr alerted me that it had dropped from $129 to $45 I jumped on it and I’m so glad I did! It’s comfy and flowy and I feel great it it! It comes with a detachable black v neck slip that I can wear with a lot of other things, so that was a nice bonus!

Once I had it on I knew it would be something I would wear over and over again. For a long time I bought things that were “a good deal,” but too often they would just sit in my closet unworn. I noticed that I had 2 issues: I’d buy things that were meant¬†for occasions that didn’t really make sense with my lifestyle and I’d buy cheap things impulsively because the deal seemed so good.

Now¬†that I keep a running list of items in my phone that I’d like to eventually buy to round out my wardrobe I find that I am much less impulsive with my shopping. And I actually want to wear ALL of my stuff. Eureka!!

I felt like this dress¬†needed a little extra oomph¬†so I grabbed my Free People Matador Hat, which has really served me well! It’s only available in one size and was a little loose¬†so I¬†had to get a little crafty to get the snug fit I needed – windy days would rip it right off my head. I ended up putting a¬†foam strip with adhesive on the back that I randomly found in my house along the inner lining (I think they were leftover from installing my window A/C unit). Voila, fixed!

I would like to wear hats more often, but I sometimes end up feeling like I stick out a little too much. And I’m never really sure if I should take it off or leave it on indoors. A quick web search told me that most people just keep them on no matter where they go,¬†FYI. Looking at these pictures now I’m even more inspired to wear hats. I like the look!

The only downside to this dress IMO is that it wrinkles easily. I have a steamer, which I 100% prefer to ironing, but still. Ugh, dealing with wrinkles is no fun. In this case I decided it’s still worth keeping, even though the dress started out¬†wrinkle free before we got in the car to shoot these pics. Oh well, you can’t have everything I guess.

I hope you’re not sick of seeing this purse lol. Because¬†it goes well with so much of what I own it’s on repeat. It was a great investment!

Smell ya later!

Workin’ the Work Style

Hi there! TGIF!

Here’s a recent work to evening look I really liked. Just take off the jacket and boom – you’re ready for drinks.

I love¬†this top, it goes with everything! It’s on sale in both colors (the dandelion color is great for warmer toned ladies) right now! The waffle detail is such a nice touch and it’s a great choice for big eating occasions ūüėČ Every time I wear this one I get at least one, “where’d you get that?!” I bought it from Macy’s, but I saw it’s available online through a few stores.

This jacket was another great buy. It’s old and from H&M, but Nordstrom has a lot¬†of super cute dupes! I also saw it’s also available at Poshmark in at least one size. Good old Poshmark…if I miss buying something before it’s sold out in stores often I can find it there.

These shoes are not for the faint of heart, but they are awesome to look at and I can handle them in small doses. They are no longer available in stores, but I found this similar pair for a great price!

I actually found these J Brand skinnies¬†at a local consignment store. I have never had a coated pair of jeans before, but I always wanted some. These fit the bill nicely, although they are technically listed online as “sateen.”

If you happen to be in the area, La Mesa actually has a few little boutiques and consignment stores that have surprisingly great stuff for awesome prices! Can you believe I got these for $12? I was stoked!!

I picked up this rose gold necklace somewhat recently (don’t worry, I’m staying strong and and so far I’m sticking to my no shopping challenge!) from Express and I like it a lot. I’m super into rose gold right now and -bonus – it goes with every skin tone! I can’t wait to wear it with a low cut jumpsuit I have…

As usual, I’m putting my Marc by Marc Jacobs cell phone wallet¬†to good use. I’ve never been one to buy higher end wallets, but after having used this wallet daily for a year or so I have changed my tune. It still looks brand new and I love that it holds everything I need so I don’t always have to schlep a purse with me. FYI it’s 49% off at Nordstrom Rack right now! Worth every penny.

Ok, that’s enough for today. I hope you have an awesome weekend!

New Haircut, New Year

OMG I cannot describe how good it feels to have¬†finally gotten a haircut! I am so bad about getting my hair done; I noticed that my last cut was in March of this year – eek!¬†I just can’t handle long hair. It’s too high maintenance, plus my hair is so fine that it just hangs there once it gets past my shoulders. I felt like a weight had been lifted off of my shoulders when the hair started to fall to the floor.

Thanks Toi (my stylist at Hair by Stacie in Miramar) for knowing exactly how to translate what I want into a cut that works for my face! After being blonde pretty much all my life at my last few appointments I tried to embrace my light brown roots, but blonde just feels more like me.

Anyway, on to my birthday outfit! I celebrated with my man and my good friend Sarah at Fred’s in Old Town and had a blast drinking and eating too much. Thanks Sarah for always being willing to shoot some pictures for me! And thanks babe for the sweet treats!

I have been thoroughly enjoying wearing coats lately – as it’s actually been cold enough – and I couldn’t resist a few shots with the signature blogger “coat draped over the shoulders” pose. This is another Burlington¬†find from way back when (likely at least 6 years ago). Since my coats don’t get much wear in sunny CA they seem to last forever! This Miss Sixty Coat still looks brand new and stylish all these years later.

I love this Sanctuary dress, not only is it super soft and comfortable, but it’s pretty flattering as well! Being a little busty I had to get a little DIY and use double sided tape to prevent any gapping in between the buttons near my bust. Worked like a charm! I get a lot of compliments on this one. Another great Macy’s steal! It’s currently on sale in this color at Nordstrom Rack and in Laurent Plaid at Sanctuary’s website). Both colors are great IMO.

Happy New Year!!!

Sanctuary Dress

This is a great dress for those hot days when you wish you could just not wear anything! It’s loose and breezy, but when it’s tied it really shows off one’s shape. The tie is braided yarn, which I think is a really cute touch. I’ve been known to use it to belt some of my other dresses since it has such cute detail – and belts are the best friend of a lady with an¬†hourglass shape!

I really like this dress paired with simple accessories like my Stuart Weitzman wedges and my reversible tote, but it also looks great layered for colder weather. I usually just swap out the wedges for a pair of booties and throw a sweater or a moto jacket on top.

IMG_2046

P.S. If you haven’t done a price adjustment for any of your full priced Nordstrom purchases I highly recommend it! These shoes were originally about $150 but I got an adjustment of about $100¬†since they went on sale within 14 days of my purchase AND¬†they had my size in stock. Woot!

They also do price matching¬†now, which I am stoked about! I just took advantage of this feature recently and I saved a bundle! It’s really easy to do, you just have to call¬†customer service. As long as a competitor offers the same item in the same color/size¬†they’ll match the price. I’ll do a post with that purse soon. It’s my new fav!!

IMG_2029

I really like Sanctuary’s dresses¬†(currently coveting this one). They tend to offer cute prints and great shapes. I don’t always love a high-low hem, but with this piece I really do. It flows nicely when I walk, but it does’t drag on the ground since it’s a midi.

Have a good one!
