Summertime Sparkle

Leith is an awesome brand; if you haven’t checked them out you should! Not only it is a very affordable line, but they are always coming out with new, classic and chic pieces. I have this dress in black and pink and I love them both.

A bodycon – aka body conscious – dress is great for showing off one’s curves! This is also the brand that I showcased in this post from earlier this year. That dress is still available in some sizes (I’m wearing a L in this dress and a M in the other post FYI, it just depends on how form fitting you want it to look) and the white version is on sale! I highly recommend it! It’s perfect for fall as the fabric is on the thicker side.

While this V-Neck Bodycon is not currently available, I found some dupes here and here (both under $20!). And how cute is this tank version and this pink one?! I’ve noticed that certain Leith pieces will sell out, but then they bring them back shortly thereafter, often in more colors. I bet this dress will come back in stock and when it does I want to get another color.

This might sound a little funny, but since I’m always looking to maximize the wearability of my closet I sometimes buy an item that I’ll wear now, but I suspect will also make a good maternity dress. This is one of those pieces that I know would work well for that stage of life. Other reviewers and bloggers have mentioned how well it works on those with a baby bump and I agree – it’s important to accentuate your curves when pregnant to avoid looking bigger than you are.

A bodycon may not be as forgiving as some other cuts, but I’ve come to realize that trying to look like the stick thin model wearing it online is not just unrealistic, but I now don’t even want to. I like that I have curves. We’re the only ones who scrutinize ourselves so terribly – others are just admiring the view (and thinking about their own insecurities).

My clutch is under $20 and it’s available in 10 colors! It looks a lot more luxe than you’d expect for the price. I know I’ll get a lot of use from it for upcoming formal events. Here’s a rectangular one I also really like.

I actually got these shoes (on sale for under $35!) for free. Say what?! Yep! DSW surprised me by sending me a gift card after seeing an Instagram pic featuring a pair of their shoes. I bought these with it and I’m so glad I did!

They are PERFECT for any formal event. The height and wide toe strap combine to make them uber comfy. And who doesn’t love a glittery gold ankle strap heel? You cannot go wrong with a pair of gold or silver heels – they go with everything!

My bracelet is also from DSW. I love it! It’s already sold out, but this one and this one (under $10!) also caught my eye.

What’s your stance on bodycon dresses? Yea or nay?

Have a lovely day! Xoxo, Kate

A Pop of Cognac

I see this faux leather jacket so often on Pinterest and Instagram that I think it’s safe to say it’s attained cult favorite status. I bought it a few years back so Nordie’s doesn’t currently have it available in this color, but they still offer it in black. It’s arguably even cuter in black! I’ve also seen it in blush in the past and wish I had snapped it up while I had the chance!

I love that it fits closely to the body – boxy does not work on me – and that it’s lightweight, but doesn’t look super cheap. The zippers and shape give it a sexy edge and it can be worn with a variety of outfits. I rarely pay full price for anything, but this gem might just be worth it.

Cognac is such a classy color, this jacket was a great way to add a little color to this all black look I wore recently. The weather has been vacillating between “May grey” to sunny so it’s nice to have a lightweight jacket for when the marine layer rolls in.

I haven’t worn it enough to know personally, but I’ve heard from some other bloggers that it gets even softer with time. That’s quite a feat for a faux leather jacket!

My Jeffrey Campbell shoes are an ooollllld purchase and I haven’t seen any look-a-likes in a while, but I did find some similar options in a few heel heights (low, higher, and highest). I love the idea of a “shootie,” as I always feel more stable in a heel that straps me in. The platform makes these heels comfy enough to walk around in all day long!

I’ve searched for years for a basic black camisole that checks all my boxes (not too tight in the bust, not too low that it’s hard to find an appropriate strapless bra, not too long). This one did so I wanted to share it with y’all.

I can already tell it’s going to be a staple in my coset. I can’t wait to wear it under a sweater with a deep v and with distressed jeans and my suede oxblood moto jacket (FYI the suede jacket is still available in M and it’s on sale!).

I definitely prefer cognac to most other brown tones. What about you – what’s your favorite neutral?

Thanks for visiting, see you soon!

Leith Midi Tank Dress

This is such a great dress. It’s a nice weight, it can be causal or kinda fancy, and I never have to worry about bending over and showing too much! Plus the price is not bad at all and it’s available in 3 colors, including white. I got it in a L, because a M wasn’t available, but a M would have also worked (and sizing down provides a little less length).

I wore this dress more casually over the weekend with my go-to Kut from the Cloth denim jacket. I also like this one. But I also really like how it looks with heels and a leather/suede jacket too. It’s best for someone at least 5’6 IMO (I’m 5’7) due to the length and it needs at least a little heel or it can look a little dowdy/disproportionate.

I actually wore this outfit strictly to be able to wear these shoes lol. I used to be against booties with an open toe – because really, they don’t make a toon of sense practically speaking – but I changed my mind when I saw these. They are shockingly comfy and really cheap (well under $50)! I was stoked to finally wear them.

If you’ve read any of my other posts you have probably noticed that I use this bag (more colors here, currently on sale!) A LOT. I feel that you only need to own a few bags (a satchel, tote, clutch, and a crossbody) so I try to buy quality pieces in classic colors that really speak to me and take care of them. The cheap purses I’ve bought in the past just tend to languish in my closet.

I’m a recent heels convert. I used to stick to flats, but I’ve found that a little heel can actually be more comfortable and I don’t seem to get blisters like I used to with my flats. Go figure. Plus, you can’t deny they are more flattering!

I can handle anything under 4″, but anything higher I just won’t wear as they hurt! What about you? How high is too high? Or is there no such thing in your mind? I’d love to hear from you in the comments 🙂

See ya again soon (hopefully)!

Ladylike – with an Edge

Hello! I hope you’re having a fabulous day!

For those of you who haven’t read my earlier posts, I am in the midst of a 6 month no shopping challenge (giftcards excluded), which is actually super hard for me, but I’m staying strong! I was killing some time on Friday at Macy’s (dangerous) while I got a necklace clasp repaired and apparently I was there at a great time as a sale had just started.

I only found a couple of things that I liked and – if you can believe it – both items were fully paid for my by gift card! Woo hoo! This top is one of my (guilt-free) buys. Since peplum tops accentuate the waist by flaring out at the hips it’s very flattering. Plus it’s quite comfortable and stretchy!

I just stumbled upon it, but like it a lot. The necklace is detachable so it’s 2 outfits in 1! Gotta love that functionality! I’ve never bought anything from Thalia Sodi before, but she’s on my radar now. I felt like such a lady in this outfit, but with a hint of an edge. I could see this working really well for work or a night out.

Speaking of stretchy – I paired it with my go-to pencil skirt by Leith. I love that there are no buttons or zippers. It’s insanely comfy! It’s no longer available at Nordies, but here’s a similar option by the same brand in another color and here’s a shorter version.

If you haven’t heard of Macy’s Thanks for Sharing Program here are the deets: Each year for the last couple of years Macy’s has offered a program where you can get 10% back on any purchases you make using your Macy’s card during the holiday season. For each program enrollment, Macy’s will make a $10 donation to charity, up to a total of $15 million. Pretty cool!

There’s a $25 enrollment fee, but if you’re planning on buying some gifts from Macy’s you’ll likely get your money back and then some. At least I always have. I got $56 back this month, based on my purchases from September-December 2016! Which I spent within a week lol

I felt like my Sam Edelman pumps were a good complement to this outfit as it’s important to lengthen one’s legs as much as possible when wearing a midi skirt. Which means either skyscraper heels (which are not for me, I am all about comfort) or a nude heel.

I’ve wanted a peplum top for a while now as they are so darn cute and flattering. TIP: I keep a running list of items I want to eventually buy to round out my wardrobe in the list app on my phone. It works out really well! If you’re anything like me and your mind goes blank the second you walk into a store it can be a huge help in avoiding random impulse buys.

I loved how this top peeked out from the bottom of my jacket (old, similar here (on sale!) and here)!

I’ve enjoyed using my golf umbrella from Walmart. It’s only $14 and so big it that it keeps me nice and dry even on the rainiest days 🙂 I love the polka dots, but they have a bunch of different options.

I love an all black look. What about you?

Leith Midi Sweater Dress

Who says you can’t wear black with navy? I wore this outfit on Saturday and I felt so comfortable and chic all day long! Can you beat that mix? I think not. I was a little unsure about this dress when I bought it online last year (size S, it runs big, I’m usually a M in Leith – thanks reviewers!!), but it was a great purchase. I’ve worn it quite a bit already and it it’s actually pretty darn flattering. The ribbing helps disguise any post-lunch “food babies.”

My new Vince Camuto Ayla Satchel makes me feel so ladylike and I got an incredible deal! It’s the perfect mix of boho and classic – love the braid detail – and the quality is great! I think this one will last a very long time. I’m new to Vince Camuto purses, but I am definitely a fan!

These Ivanka Trump booties (currently 40% off!) were such a good buy – not only do I wear them constantly, but they are super easy to walk in all day long. No joke! A 3″ heel is usually my max and these are 3″, but somehow they feel like a lower heel. I wanted a bootie that was a little less casual than my Sam Edelman booties and these pointed toe babies fit the bill perfectly. I even got a “nice shoes” shout out from some guy driving by. Money well spent indeed lol!

It was a pretty cold day by San Diego standards so I was stoked to be able to layer. Layering is a great way to add visual interest to an outfit!

I bought this BNCI by Blanc Noir faux leather jacket a few years back from Nordstrom Rack and I find myself wearing it over and over. I always get compliments and it’s a little more substantial than your typical faux leather jacket, which is nice! I can’t really afford real leather so this is a great compromise! Pus it adds a little “edge” to whatever I pair it with.

Thanks for stopping by!
