Hiya sweet cheeks! I hope your day is going fabulously well!
Today I am continuing the theme of breaking out of the style blogger box. I will probably never stop loving beautiful clothes and the many ways I can express myself through what I put on my body, but I’ve been feeling the need to expand the content of my blog posts so I figured today was a good day to get really weird!
I – like most people – used to want to fit in above all else. Well I am happy to report that is no longer the case! I have always felt a little weird/different from others and I suspect I’m not the only one. Now instead of hiding what makes me different I want to fully embody and express those qualities that make me my unique self.
How boring would this world be if we were all exactly the same? And yet, when I started this blog I must have thought there was only one way to blog “correctly,” because I took notes from my favorite blogs and started doingΒ pretty much exactly what they did. There’s nothing wrong with this I suppose, but in hindsight I see how limiting this perspective can be. I found myself constantly comparing myself to them – and falling short. Not so fun π
You may have heard the expression “we teach what we need to learn;” well I have realized just how true that is. I have come to feel my main mission as a well-being coach (my day job) is to help others come to the understanding that they are enough NOW and that there’s nothing to fix.
I believe that we are all expressions of God/the divine/all that is/whatever you call your higher power and there’s no way the perfection of the universe would create less than perfect beings. So can we all agree to (try to) stop looking for reasons to to prove we’re not okay, just as we are?
*FYI I had a lot of fun looking through my old blog pics to find the ones where I’m the most myself for this post – and often those didn’t make the cut! I could decide to find all of my “faults,” but instead I’m seeking the beauty. In what ways do you currently recognize your awesomeness?
Yes, we all want to continue to evolve and learn new things and become better and better, but that doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with how you are right now. It’s so easy to live in the past or the future, but I’ve found that I am A LOT happier when I’m focused on what’s going right/the positives right now.
My background is psychology (BS in psych and MS in health psych) and I see now that I chose that field of study because I thought it had the answers I sought. While I learned a lot about the human psyche, it fell far short of giving me the wisdom that I desired.
In the last decade or so I have been on a metaphysical journey. It is now so obvious to me that while science is valuable and certainly has it place, there is so much about life that cannot be understood through a observable and physically focused discipline like the scientific method.
I have a long history of starting things and not seeing them to fruition. While that used to seem like a failure, I’m now reconsidering that idea. Not giving energy to things that don’t serve us is a victory – and frees us up to do what does feel right. With every year I find myself becoming more and more open to non-traditional ways of looking at the world.
For example, I used to scoff at things like Reiki and now I SO want to see a Reiki Master. Go figure π Have you ever heard of Human Design? It’s in the realm of astrology and numerology, both of which I used to think were total BS – or at least purely a source of entertainment. Human Design basically gives you a strategy to get the most out of life (I’m a 5/2 generator if you’re curious). I’m still playing with that one, it’s pretty “out there.”
But over time I’ve come to realize that all of these tools can be valuable when looked at in the right way. I’ve learned a ton about astrology after stumbling across this article, which offers a very different view of what your sun sign (Capricorn for me) really means. Now I have multiple books on astrology in my library and I even create birth charts for my friends if they’re interested.
If you have any interest in checking out astrology I’d suggest going to The Astro Codex and creating a free birth chart. They offer links to explain what the different features of your chart mean, which is very helpful for a newbie. I personally had the most “aha” moments when looking back in time to see how certain transits coincided with major events in my life. It made me a believer! I have also become very interested in numerology; it’s fascinating to read about how your life path number, personal year, and universal year, etc. can help you gain valuable insights into your life and what’s coming down the pike.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one to blindly buy everything that’s presented to me, but I am far more open to this stuff and the ways in which it might benefit my life than I used to be. I’m truly enjoying opening my mind wider than ever! Life feels more magical then it ever has, so it’s hard to believe I’m on the wrong track. That does not mean it’s necessarily right for you of course – I just like to share what I learn in case it’s helpful to anyone else.
I’ve also been into tarot for a while and while it seemed a little scary and even occult at first, I’ve found it’s just a way to connect to your inner wisdom. I did a card pull each day for a while and that helped a lot in familiarizing myself with the world of tarot. This is the deck that spoke to me the most. It’s really accurate people! If you have the right approach, of course. Who knows what I’ll find next, but I look forward to it. π
For a while I prefaced everything I talked about within this realm with a “now this will sound weird, but…” Now I mainly just keep it to myself unless someone asks, but I am not going to assume anything nor apologize for thinking outside of the box. But I will also never force my interests and beliefs upon anyone else. I waited a long time to post about this because it was hard for me to know how it might be received, but I figure if this all sounds like gobbledygook you can just close this page of your browser and move on to something else. No sweat or judgement here. On the other hand, if you liked this post you might also like my answers on www.Quora.com.
In what ways do you show your uniqueness/weirdness? I say let your freak flag fly, in my experience that is the road to happiness π
Sending you love and light,
Kate
