I remember the first time I heard the term “trapeze dress.” It was Free People of course (likely this popular little number, see the 2021 version here) and all the style advice said to avoid this particular shape if one is curvy. While it is true that you will look larger than you are if you have a big bust and you wear this shape without a defined waist, luckily there are plenty of cinched in options out there these days. And of course there’s always the option to simply add a belt.
I am more drawn to midi’s these days, but I loved how this 1.State dress (old, see similar looks from the brand here, here, here, and here) looked with my new(ish) boots – it re-ignighted my interest in this shape. Luckily most dresses with this shape have a defined waist these days so they are flattering on many types of bodies. This red dress would be so cute for a more casual holiday party and this one would look great if you need to dress up just a bit more.
Express actually has a ton of dresses like this one right now and I was majorly tempted to grab one with the current 50% off promo, but I held myself back. Yay me! However, if you do not have a closetful of dresses like I do then you may want to consider one of these cuties.
Stay warm out there friends…it’s definitely feeling like we’ve moved out of fall and into winter around here. Happy holidays!
XO, Kate
