Even though I have a closet full of great clothes that I’m excited to wear, I still like the idea of being able to mix and match the majority of my closet. When I saw this dress as I was buying an Xmas gift online I saw its potential. Even at full price this dress is a good deal, but most of the time you can get some kind of discount at Old Navy – right now cardmembers get 40% off, although this ends 12/28.
I thought I might share how I’ve styled it so far, but keep in mind that I was feeling lazy that day and did not want to have to change my shoes lol. I’ll get even more mileage out of this baby once I add tights and play with the footwear. Which is your favorite? *Most of the pieces I’ve layered over this dress are old, but I will link what I can:
Outfit #1
Outfit #2: sweater
Outfit #3: sweater
Outfit #4: cardigan sweater (similar)
Outfit #5: moto jacket (similar – real suede), (similar, faux suede 1 and similar, faux suede 2)
Outfit #6: sweater
By the by, taking all these photos of myself has come in handy lately as I’ve been looking at how much my “color season” has impacted my wardrobe without even knowing it. I know I’m a summer, but I’m still trying to figure out my subset (soft, true, or light summer). The wording throws me off, but what I think they’re really getting at is the level of contrast so I’m pretty sure I’m a light summer. *If you’re not sure about your own level of contrast, a good trick is to look at a black and white picture of your face. It’ll be a lot more clear that way.
You might be thinking, “why does this even matter?” We all want to look our best, and knowing which colors make us shine (vs. those that make us look pale or sickly) can be very helpful when shopping (I’ve even thought about buying this). But I use it as a guideline, not a mandate. For example, I really like the way true white looks on me, yet it’s one of those colors that I’m supposed to avoid. Black is also supposedly a no-no, but as long as I keep the black a bit away from my face I think it still has its place in my closet.
I used to wear so much black that Leo would jokingly call me Dieter (lol), but now I have come to see that black can be a bit too harsh on me and I actually can achieve a more flattering “edgy” look using darker colors, like the oxblood jacket shown above.
Until next time – much love,
Kate
