FP Saturday Morning Cardi

IMG_9882

This Free People cardigan has been called the “it sweater” this year and I can totally see why. It’s awesome! When something is uber popular I am usually less inclined to get it – it’s always a bummer to enter a room and find that others are wearing the same item of clothing – but I knew I had to have this one as soon as I saw it on Caitlin from Southern Curls and Pearls.

IMG_9849

Unfortunately it’s a little hard to find on sale due to it’s popularity, but I saw the blush is still on sale at Saks and Nordies price matched the blue and blush, get them here. Warning: they will likely go fast due to the sale price! The blush pink is my fav color, but you can get it in 4 additional colors here. I really like that the pink is not super bright – it goes just as well with a black ensemble as it does with blue jeans.

IMG_9838

Most people will be able to fit into either size as it’s so roomy, but I much prefer how it looks in the larger size (unless you’re petite) as the proportions are so much better. It’s pretty substantial/thick, but it’s still a great layer for those of us in milder climates as the holes allow for ventilation.

IMG_9878

I adore the pattern of the knit, just be mindful not to snag it on everything as the holes are quite large. I have to be pretty mindful of my wedding ring for that reason. You can increase the warm factor by adding a thicker layer underneath, but you can also just throw it on over a tank and just pop it in your (large) bag when it gets a little too warm.

IMG_9825

Speaking of large bags, this one is so big that it can double as a carryon. It easily fit my sweater (which takes up quite a bit of space), AND it has a padded tablet/laptop compartment! What a smart idea! Many online reviewers noted this was a negative, but it can be a great option for those looking for a carryall. The price is great at less than $110, considering that it was originally almost $300. Honestly I’m surprised it hasn’t yet sold out at DSW as I bought mine a while ago. You can also get it on sale here and here. Another winner from Vince Camuto!

IMG_9880

I am still super happy I purchased this FP tank. It’s so much more than a basic ribbed tank top. The subtle flair at the hem and racerback details make it so flattering and stylish. I want it in pink too! You can get some colors/sizes of this tank for 50% off right now here. And Nordies also has some colors on sale here and here. I don’t often see them on sale as they are already pretty affordable, so grab them on sale while you can!

IMG_9854

These jeans are also a workhorse in my closet – they are the perfect color IMO. The cut is awesome – no extra material in the ankle and the mid-rise is especially flattering with a tucked-in top. My pair is old, but I would buy this one (on sale!), this one, and this one if I were shopping for a new pair. Be warned, the sizing for this style of denim varies wildly, so I recommend trying them on in store rather than taking a chance online. I haven’t worn jeans in a while due to the warm weather and I’d forgotten how much I love skinnies with some kind of a heel. Show those legs off girlies!

IMG_9883

My pumps are a little old, but here’s (on sale!) the newest version by Sam Edelman. Based on the online reviews, these are some crazy popular heels. They are a bit high for me, but I’m not generally on my feet a lot. You can tell it’s fall as they don’t match my skin tone. In the summer they’re actually a great match 😉

IMG_9828

I wore outfit this a few days before Thanksgiving to grab some food with the hubs. Yet again we had a scorcher on turkey day. Every so often we’ll have a chilly Thanksgiving, but more often than not it’s quite warm, thanks to the Santa Anas. I can’t say I really mind, as people throughout the country are freezing their  booties off and I was able to sneak in a beach day the day before Thanksgiving! But I do love being able to layer. That time should come soon enough, considering it’s already December. Where does the time go?!

Have a splendid weekend my loves! XO, Kate

New Years Came Early this Year – Blondo Taras OTK Boots

I have to admit I don’t always do much for New Years. Both the hubs and I enjoy just chilling together more often than not. However, I always think about what I will/would wear and try to tackle the question of how to both look cute and stay warm.

Even in sunny San Diego it’s pretty much guaranteed that it will be cold on NYE and New Year Day. Well, cold for us. So that usually means one can get away with skipping a jacket if one is planning to be in and out of establishments, but there are some really chilly moments!

Of course, if you bring a jacket then you have to lug it with you or check it – if available. I think my new solution will be OTK boots! When we took these pics it was far from cold, but since I run pretty warm I think they’ll be just enough extra coverage to avoid frostbite (hehe).

I don’t go out very often as it all seems like such a pain to me. The crowds, waiting for service, the cost, no places to sit…(grumble grumble). But seeing as how I have so many pretty clothes I try to go out from time to time just to take them for a spin.

This dress is pretty old but you can still get some colors on Poshmark (Free People Embellished Slip Dress) and this seems to be this year’s version. I’ve placed some additional Free People dresses that are sure to get the party started here, here, here, and here. I could Google “Free People sequin dresses” all day every day!

I also really enjoy “rediscovering” things in my closet that I haven’t worn much (if at all) and creating new looks with accessories. I tried this dress with my Free People seamless romper underneath instead of the seamless mini slip shown here and I really liked it. It gives it an extra little edge seeing the short shorts underneath. I also like it with a blush or black slip underneath.

I searched for the perfect pair of over the knee boots for a while before I found these beauties. They are awesome!! So many of the OTK boots out there are cute but I wanted a pair that would be at least somewhat comfortable. These SO are due to the chunkier heel. They are 3.5″, but feel lower. I like that the pointy toe keeps them in the sexy and flattering category.

My favorite part is that they’re waterproof! What a genius idea. In SD we only get a few really cold days and many of them are when it rains so this was a big reason I bought them. Now I can stay warm and not worry at all about ruining them, like I would with suede or leather boots.

I am still really loving my Lipsense lipstick that I got from my Insta friend @kissablesense. Being a lazy-ish gal it’s so perfect for me. No need to reapply! I already have the Dark Pink and Strawberry Shortcake (the one I’m currently wearing), but I’ll definitely be getting a nude color for those days that I don’t want to go quite as bold. I’m thinking Roseberry, but it’s really hard to say for sure without seeing the color in person.

These sunnies (use coupon code: NewShades for 10% off) seemed like the perfect complement to my dress. The pink reflective lenses are just fun and a cat eye is flattering on everyone!

This bag’s fun multi-colored tassel also helped it go really well with this look. Sadly this particular version is no longer available, but this one is very similar and would go with just about everything.

What do you do to fete the new year?

Party on people! Much love, Kate

Rose Colored Life

Normally I’m all about accentuating my waist for the most flattering look, but with this beautiful dress (also available here – on sale!) I just felt like I had to ditch the belt/tie it came with and let it flow.

How cute is this pattern?! I felt like it went perfectly with my Rebecca Minkoff Geo Love purse. I also love the shape of the hem and the subtle striped details – can you spot them?

I’ve never bought anything from this brand before, but that’s mainly due to the price point. When I saw it was on sale for a mere $30 I decided to give it a shot. I’m so glad I did! I don’t know that it’s worth the full price of $198 though. The fabric, although nice, doesn’t seem to be anything special. BTW I spotted this top from the same brand the other day and it is still on my mind…

I love how feminine this dress is and that it didn’t need to be hemmed – hallelujah! I used to think built in half slips were a way for the manufacturer to save money/be cheap, but I now appreciate having less material. It’s a lot cooler that way and cuts down on the bulk. Plus, since this dress is not see through, no one would know anyway.

Sadly my shoes broke right after shooting these pics. I was SO sad as this is the best pair  of “nicer” low wedges I’ve ever found and I haven’t seen anything all that similar. However, I do think thesethesethese, these, and these are great options.

I’ve already taken this dress for a few spins and it looks just as cute with a belt. I recently snagged a trio of belts in classic colors from Nordies and I’m stoked! How cute is this one?

I feel like the best version of myself in floating, girlie dresses. What type of look makes you feel your best?

Have a stellar day y’all! Much love, Kate

Adding Some Color to My Life

Happy Friday loves!

I’ve been noticing that I wear a lot of muted colors and neutrals lately so when I saw this dress go on sale for $30 I grabbed it. Lord and Taylor was positively giving stuff away that day! The price has gone up a bit since then, but it’s still a great deal at $64 (half price!). It’s also available here and here (as low as $56.40, depending on the size).

I like how the pleats on this dress are limited to the front and back – you run the risk of looking bigger if there are too many or if they are wide. I tried it on with a thin gold belt I own and really liked it, I’ll probably add some gold ankle strap heels and a gold clutch for a dressier occasion.

Here’s a shorter, similar option by the same brand. I also want this one sooo bad! I’m all about the femininity of pleats right now. Though I have so many dresses now that I need to be really choosy going forward if I want to actually be able to fit all of my clothes into my closet. If it goes on super sale I might not be able to resist.

I love listening to audiobooks when I go for my daily walks and lately I’ve been listening to some books that I would have described as “out there” in years’ past. One talked about how colors give off different vibrational frequencies and this made me think about how my clothes make me feel.

I only buy clothes or accessories that make me feel confident, but I’d never really thought about anything beyond that before. But now that I think of it my energy level does feel a little different, depending on the colors I’m wearing.

If this sounds intriguing to you check out this article for more info. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the topic in the comments!

Speaking of bright colors, I looove these pumps! I’ve mentioned them before, but they are worth mentioning again. They’re the perfect height (in my opinion), they’re very comfortable, and they’re offered in so many colors (I also really like the dusty pink). They offer this red pump in wide widths here. I love adding a pop of color to my otherwise neutral outfits. They do a great job of jazzing things up a bit! Plus they are very affordable.

During the summer I’m all about clutches as I like to travel light. This one is old, but here’s a similar option that’s still available.

Which colors do you feel best wearing?

Thanks for visiting, hugs! Kate

FP Simone Cami/Wardrobe Trick

How cute is this floral cami from Free People? Get it here for under $25! Also available here (also on sale!). There is a red and black version that’s really cute as well. It’s actually a floral pattern, but for some reason I always think of palm trees when I see it. What about you?

I found a very similar tank, also from Free People – note the lower cut back and thicker straps (great for wearing with a regular/non strapless bra!). Both are nice options for those who want to camouflage a little tummy.

On this day I wore my cami with my super old denim skirt, but I’m really looking forward to wearing it with my white shorts. How cute would that combo be? White shorts are a summer staple! FYI American Eagle is offering a 50% discount on all their shorts right now (online only)!

These shoes are an old purchase from INC International Concepts (a fav brand) and no longer available, but I found these (love!!), this black pair, and this sparkly option. Good news – they are all on sale! A low wedge is the perfect way to add a little height without sacrificing comfort.

Random thought, but how funny is it that my hair looks black or blonde/light brown, depending on the lighting? Oh well, I guess it is about time to get some new highlights. Am I the only one who waits as looong as possible to get my hair did? I love my stylist (Toi at Hair by Stacie in Miramar), but I just can’t be bothered to drive down there more than once a year. Besides I wear my hair up pretty much all the time throughout summer. *shrug*

My Vince Camuto Ayla bag went really well with this look. I’m still in love with it! It holds the perfect amount of stuff. I can fit my big zippered wallet AND my sunglasses case, in addition to a compact and some other small items. I love that it can also be worn crossbody. This girl needs options 😉

Speaking of options, do you ever find yourself thinking – what the heck do I have to wear? I have a feeling all of us have been there. My trick for always having some inspo available is to save the online images of the clothes I buy in an album within my pictures on my phone. I can sometimes forget about the things I have so this is AWESOME to remind me of what I have and get me thinking about how I might combine things. It’s also a way to avoid overbuying items similar to what you already own. It’s like a low rent version of Cher’s closet situation from Clueless – anyone else remember that? If only!

How adorable is this fence btw? You know how you’ll buy a car and then all of a sudden you see a zillion cars just like yours, when before you didn’t really notice all that many? I’ve always enjoyed good landscaping and nature in general, but since starting this blog I’ve found myself noticing an amazing amount of awesome backdrops for photo shoots. They are everywhere!

Have a fab day y’all! Stay cool!

Spring Fling Dress, Part Deux

This pretty little number is one of the three versions (same cut, different colors/patterns) of this Sanctuary dress that I currently own. I posted about one of the other ones here. There are so many different versions available and almost all of them are on sale!

I also own the midnight garden color, which is perfect for Independence Day and it’s on sale (also available here). I really love it in the sun bleached tile, cameo pink sprout, and bluebelle as well. I haven’t seen one I don’t like! There are almost too many too choose from 😉 The shape, dual layers, and pleating at the bust and on the back are my favorite features.

Owning 3 versions of the same dress might sound like overkill, but the fit is so comfortable and flattering – plus I was able to snag them for much, much less than the original price.

I mentioned this bag (on sale for $30 right now!) in a recent post and I still love it! It really does go with just about anything and the multicolored tassel detail gives it a little something extra. Plus it can be worn in multiple ways due to the adjustable strap.

I’ve mentioned this in previous posts, but Shoptagr.com is my secret weapon for snagging the stuff I want at deep discounts. Just install a button on your web toolbar, save items that catch your eye, and they’ll alert you when they go on sale in your size. Could it get any easier?

I’ve saved massive amounts of money using this free service. Now I just can’t justify paying full price for anything. I usually will add items to my list and then when I get an alert I will have had enough time to decide if I really want it. Then I can delete it or take the plunge. It’s a good system! A cooling off period is never a bad idea when one has a budget to stick to.

These shoeties are from my recent shopping bonanza at DSW over Memorial Day weekend. I was blown away by the deals and this pair is a particular favorite. They are crazy comfortable, even at a heel height of 3.5″. I was SO tempted to buy them in grey as well, but I came to my senses. I might snap them up at some point down the line – even at full price they are only $65. Say what?!

This bracelet (also available in other colors) is a recent impulse buy and I’ve found myself wearing it a lot. I usually stick to pretty understated jewelry and let my clothes and shoes do the talking.

Speaking of accessories, this yarn belt came with a different dress, but I loved how it looked with this dress. It brought out the colors in the dress and accentuated the waist, which is always a good thing! I can see this being an easy DIY project. Just braid 2-3 pieces of yarn together and boom – you’ve got a belt.

This necklace is from INC’s Mix and Match Charm Necklace Collection from Macy’s (on sale!). You can use the chain over and over and just swap out the pendant for some variety. Once again, I love versatility! How do you get the most bang for your buck when shopping?

Thanks for stopping by! Much love, Kate

INC Yvvon Crossbody Bag

I haven’t bought cheaper (non leather) bags in the last few years as I really value quality items that last, but I made an exception for this bag.   It’s also offered in velvet, with a gold tassel, and in a couple of colors in a very similar version with a turn lock instead of the tassel. All of them are on sale right now!

Apparently it’s a dupe for a much more expensive Rebecca Minkoff bag. Thanks reviewer for the info! I really like that it’s structured enough that it retains it’s shape and it goes with a lot of different outfits. Plus the multicolored tassel is a fun detail.

I am all about versatility so when I realized that it could be worn as a crossbody or a shoulder bag I was in! You can also tuck the strap in and use it as a clutch. 3 purses in 1?? Yes please!

My shirt dress is no longer available, but I’ve listed some similar dresses here, here, and here. And here’s a similar option for the petite ladies out there.

These booties are older and only available in size 10 and 11 at this point, but I’ve listed my top picks for black booties here (50% off!), here (62% off!) and here (59% off!).

What’s your favorite type of purse (Crossbody, tote, satchel, shoulder bag)? Or are you a backpack person?

Thanks so much for visiting!! I hope you come back soon!

Matching vs. Coordinating

I have always had an obsession with making sure all of the colors within my outfits match – and I’m not just talking about the main pieces. Back in my school days I would even make sure my undies and makeup matched. Yes, I know that’s super weird!

Thankfully I’ve relaxed a bit over time, but I still find myself hesitating to put together an outfit if the colors don’t match exactly. When I added my orangey-red pumps this outfit I thought to myself, “but there’s no red in my kimono!” before I threw caution to the wind (heh) and went for it. Am I the only one who does this? I’m glad I did as I really liked this look.

I bought them from Macy’s as I had a gift card, but I noticed that you can get them as cheap as $25 from Bluefly with free shipping and $15 from Amazon, depending on the size. I even think they are a great deal at the regular price of $70. They are real suede, they come in multiple colors, they fit my wide feet in my usual size, and the heel height is great IMO.

Kimonos are an awesome layer for those days when it’s not quite cool enough for a sweater or jacket or to throw on over a swim suit (stay tuned for a future post doing just that). And I LOVE the fringe on this one! The sizing is generous due to the flowy fit so I could have probably made any of the sizes work, but I went with a M. FYI it also comes in a red version.

The most common way to wear a kimono seems to be over some kind of denim, but I liked how pairing it with these sateen X jeggings (currently on clearance, some sizes are still left) elevated the outfit a bit. They feel sumptuous! I’m rarely never accused of being too casual. 😉 Side note, American Eagle is having a 40% off sale on their new collection and BOGO 50% off for all jeans stores and online. Woot!

Sorry for the crazy hair, it felt like I was in a wind tunnel during this shoot. Grr.

I have worn this ivory camisole from Loft so much. My basics get a lot of use, so I try to buy stuff that’s of reasonably high quality. This one is old and no longer available, but I’ve listed some similar options from www.Express.com here and here.

Express is also having a sale today – 40% off and free shipping on $50! How cute is this black lace cami? I’d so buy that one if my husband wouldn’t kill me for it.

I am so into this mix and match charm necklace from INC. You just buy a full necklace and then you can buy as many additional pedants as you want so you can mix it up to your heart’s desire. What a clever idea! I wear it often and already have 5 pendants to choose from.

Yet again I’ve paired this outfit with my Vince Camuto “Ayla” saddlebag. More colors here. I wear it constantly and it still looks brand new! I love bags with a little shape. The ones I own that are unstructured just never seem to make the cut when I’m putting my outfits together.

Thanks for listening to my ramblings – or just checking out my pics. I hope you come back soon!

Have a great week! Xoxo, Kate

Free People Babydoll

Is it possible to have too many Free People dresses? Based on my closet I’d have to say no way!

I have been tempted to buy some FP knockoffs at times (just search “boho” at www.Forever21.com and you’ll see what I mean), but I find that FP dresses have the extra little details that I really love.

Take this dress for example, I love the braided detail and the fact that it is fully lined. Plus the material is really nice – I find I gravitate toward the items in my closet that just feel good on. Is that true for you too? I’ve had this dress for a while, so it’s sold out in yellow, but it’s still available in ivory and black in Medium (65% off and under $40!). Ebay also has both colors in additional sizes available. I also have the red version and I love that one too!

We took these pics on the way home from my dad’s birthday brunch and we were a little rushed, so unfortunately we didn’t get any good pictures of the back. It probably looks best on smaller busted ladies who can get away with wearing no bra or a bralette, but this lady needs support! Since I have to wear a bra with it I just make sure it’s a pretty/complimentary color so it looks intentional.

I paired it with my vintage Coach purse that I got from www.Poshmark.com. It’s a classic and still in great shape. I have a feeling I’ll buy more vintage/used higher end bags in the future. In addition to PM, you can find designer used bags at www.tradesy.com and www.trendlee.com to name a few. It can save a bundle!

It’s tempting to throw a jean jacket over all of my daytime dresses, but I liked the way this looked with my American Rag jacket. It’s from a few seasons ago and sold old, but the new versions are here and here. I’m impressed by the quality for the price!

Again, I find that it’s the little details that make this jacket stand out. The drawstring at the waist offers some shape, the hood is actually functional, and the shoulder detail is super cute.

My shoes are also old and no longer available, but I’ve linked some similar-ish options here (love these!!) and here (I want these too!).

Thanks for visiting!! Xoxo, Kate

Workin’ the Work Style

Hi there! TGIF!

Here’s a recent work to evening look I really liked. Just take off the jacket and boom – you’re ready for drinks.

I love this top, it goes with everything! It’s on sale in both colors (the dandelion color is great for warmer toned ladies) right now! The waffle detail is such a nice touch and it’s a great choice for big eating occasions 😉 Every time I wear this one I get at least one, “where’d you get that?!” I bought it from Macy’s, but I saw it’s available online through a few stores.

This jacket was another great buy. It’s old and from H&M, but Nordstrom has a lot of super cute dupes! I also saw it’s also available at Poshmark in at least one size. Good old Poshmark…if I miss buying something before it’s sold out in stores often I can find it there.

These shoes are not for the faint of heart, but they are awesome to look at and I can handle them in small doses. They are no longer available in stores, but I found this similar pair for a great price!

I actually found these J Brand skinnies at a local consignment store. I have never had a coated pair of jeans before, but I always wanted some. These fit the bill nicely, although they are technically listed online as “sateen.”

If you happen to be in the area, La Mesa actually has a few little boutiques and consignment stores that have surprisingly great stuff for awesome prices! Can you believe I got these for $12? I was stoked!!

I picked up this rose gold necklace somewhat recently (don’t worry, I’m staying strong and and so far I’m sticking to my no shopping challenge!) from Express and I like it a lot. I’m super into rose gold right now and -bonus – it goes with every skin tone! I can’t wait to wear it with a low cut jumpsuit I have…

As usual, I’m putting my Marc by Marc Jacobs cell phone wallet to good use. I’ve never been one to buy higher end wallets, but after having used this wallet daily for a year or so I have changed my tune. It still looks brand new and I love that it holds everything I need so I don’t always have to schlep a purse with me. FYI it’s 49% off at Nordstrom Rack right now! Worth every penny.

Ok, that’s enough for today. I hope you have an awesome weekend!
