While I haven’t exactly been lonely in my new spot, I was super excited for my friend Sarah to visit me a couple weeks ago. We had such a good time exploring my new ‘hood! I was hoping she might decide to move in with us, but seeing as how she was freezing the whole time she was here that just did not happen (she is a beach girl, through and through). Oh well. I wanted to share some pics and tips from our time together so here we go…
First off, we went shopping. That was a no brainer – we are both Maxinistas and love the hunt, after all. While she and I made our way through our 2nd TJMaxx (lol) I found this cute wrap dress that looked so good layered over my black jeans I knew I had to take it home and see if it warranted being an addition to my closet. I was stoked to find that it looked great paired with my new OTK suede boots! It was pretty boobylicious – even when tied pretty tight – as wrap dresses tend to be on buster gals, but my handy dandy lace bralette (which I wear over a standard bra for the best shape and coverage) helped me avoid any wardrobe malfunctions.
I was VERY happy I’d thrown it on over my bra for extra coverage when I saw that all our walking had exposed way more of me than I anticipated. I really like that the volume of the sleeves makes one’s waist look extra small. Plus, there are so many colors available at a great discount right now. I got the L, but probably could have gone with an XL too. Since it’s a wrap dress it’s pretty adjustable. Check out some other cute versions here, here (love it in light green!), and here.
Tip: If you plan to visit California’s state capital I would highly advise sticking close to the Capital Museum building and staying away from Midtown. It felt like a movie when we first got there as they were in the middle of hanging a ton of Christmas tree lights and it had that fun downtown feel, even on a grey Saturday. Until we veered a bit to the SE and it got sketchy FAST. One guy even tried to stealthily steal Leo’s iPhone as he whizzed by us on a scooter but Leo was smart and tucked it away before he could grab it. Not today buddy!
It was just so sad seeing all the closed up storefronts and homeless people. I was kicking myself for not bringing along an old Colombia jacket that I planned to donate as I bet some of those people could have used it. We also went to Old Town, but unfortunately I did not end up getting any pictures while there. However it was ADORABLE! Although I have to admit I am still scratching my head at the fact that we saw no less than 5 candy stores within the tiny little section of Sacramento that is Old Town. I guess that tells you something about their target customer. 😉It is so gosh darn cute and safe for the kiddos so I would definitely stop there if you’re in the area. I’m still learning about my new locale, but I would also avoid anything with the word Arden in it though, as there tends to be a lot of crime near Arden and Arden Arcade.
We also went to Truckee and Tahoe for the day and it was so much fun! I’d been before, but during the summer, so it was really nice to see it in fall.
I cannot believe this pullover is still available online, since I bought it a few years ago – albeit it in very limited sizes and colors. But I just saw it’s still on Amazon. I own it in 2 colors in the Med/Large and it’s a great, lightweight sweater that you can thrown on over leggings and call it an outfit.
We are such Californians – we got way too excited over the fact that there was snow on the ground in Tahoe. I got to use my new jacket for the first time! I stumbled on this brand while browsing Nordstrom Rack for puffer coat. When I saw this color, the price ($100 off!) and the fact that they use recycled plastic bottles for the “eco plume” down alternative material I was in! Sarah liked it so much she considered buying it too. Great minds! The workout leggings (wearing size 12) are from VS, they are what I wear daily for my walks with Scoob. Love those pockets and they are uber comfortable.
Take care my friends! I hope you are enjoying the holiday season! We already have our tree up AND all the presents wrapped underneath. Winning! Haha
XO, Kate
