Who knew faux leather leggings could be so wearable?! I’m so glad I gave them a try during Express’ 50% off sale around the holidays as I truly love them! Not only are they super comfortable, but they add a little edge/visual interest to any look AND they don’t collect animal hair like cotton leggings do.
For this animal lover that was a surprisingly wonderful benefit! While it took me a little while to try them, I am officially on the bandwagon. It just goes to show, you really do need to try things on before determining if they will work.
*Remember – texture, color, pattern, and shine are the ways you can add visual interest to an ensemble, as Stacy and Clinton taught us in What Not to Wear. This is such a great tip to keep in mind! I might just have to add my black OTK suede boots next time for even more of a contrast.
They are not currently as cheap as when I purchased them, but they are 40% off this weekend! Unfortunately they sell out quickly; so if you want them, but they don’t have your size in stock just wait a bit and they’ll likely re-stock.
I get emails from Express so they’ll often alert me when a sold out style comes back in stock, but you can also add them to your Shoptagr list (Have you set yours up yet? If not, what are you waiting for? It’s the best way to snag exactly what you want at super low prices!).
FYI these are labeled as “super high waisted,” but on me they are just high enough to hit at the right place for maximum comfort and avoid any muffin top – and I’m actually pretty short waisted.
That being said, I am not a fan of wearing them as pants. It just doesn’t look right to me so I always pair them with a longer top. But these days there really are no rules, so don’t let me stop you if you want to go that route. Express yo-self! Hehe
Before I bit the bullet and bought this pair of faux leggings I did quite a bit of online “research.” I like to check out Pinterest, fashion blogs, or even Google images to get outfit ideas from celebs/stylish people – then I figure out how to make them my own.
I recently started using the Layout app to make a little mood board and save my ideas for the various ways to style my most loved pieces of clothing. I’m HOOKED! Now when I need a little inspo I just review all the outfit ideas I’ve previously saved on my phone and boom, I’m looking good in no time 😉
I really like how the faux leather meshes with my ankle booties (similar) – you can’t quite tell where one begins and the other ends. Kind of fun, no?
This plaid cardi has also become a staple of my wardrobe. I really like how it can read edgy fabulous or more toned down chic, depending on how you style it. It also looks great with lighter blue denim and a white tee or tank. I’ve gotten compliments aplenty each time I’ve taken it for a spin. On top of that, I spotted it in the clearance section of my local Lucky Brand store and snagged it for $100 off the original price!
It’s kind of crazy how clothing companies will sell items for way too much money at first, only to slash the price when it goes on sale to appeal to bargain hunters like me. I always wonder who buys these overpriced items at full pop…
Anyway, this piece looks more red online, but it’s actually orange with some purple and black accents. This works just fine for me, but some online reviewers were not too happy about the difference between how it looks online and in person. Again, a reason to check things out in store, if possible.

What do you think? Would you wear leather leggings?
Later ‘gators! XO, Kate
