One fashion quandary has been at the top of my list to figure out for quite a while – how to wear black lace during the day without looking like you just stepped out of the boudoir. I know it’s not just me!
I LOVE the look of a slipdress and silk slip dresses can look really great when paired with a chunky knit sweater or cardigan, but the shininess shows every lump and bump so I was stoked to find this particular midi slipdress with a more forgiving fabric.
I am obsessed with my 1.STATE lace cami so when I saw the slipdress version on Nordstromrack.com I had to have it! While this particular slipdress has (sadly) sold out, I found some other similar options here, here, and here. And how cute is this animal print version from the same brand?!
Once I had it in my possession I got right to work on figuring out the various ways I could wear it. Pinterest is great for this; I’ll often check out how others have styled certain pieces to get my creative juices flowing. I really liked how a cardigan could take the sexy factor down a notch so I decided to pair it with my new-ish (I often buy stuff out of season so it sits around a while before I can actually wear it) open front cardigan from Splendid/TJMaxx.
I highly doubt I would have bought this sweater at the original price (it would have to be cashmere or something to make me even consider it at $168, and even then…), but I do really love it and I can tell it’s well made. I did happen to notice one on Ebay so there are still few out there, but here are a few dupes (1, 2, 3) that won’t break the bank.
I liked the combo, but when I added the belt (similar, more affordable option here) I felt truly complete – it’s often the details that make the outfit! My favorite place to shop for belts is Anthropologie, but of course they can be pretty pricey. F21 also has a ton of great belts at awesome prices. I am a huge fan of elastic belts in particular and Anthro always has a ton of great, unique options!
This is more of a work look, but I also plan to wear this dress with booties (the snake print is soo good!) and a moto jacket and layered under a sweater once it cools down. I also see myself wearing this cardigan over black leggings and a black top a lot this winter, especially for any travel/flights. It’s nice and thick!
I actually bought this guy in a size S, even though that is most certainly not my current size, haha. It can be super tempting to pull open front cardigans closed, but unless you are stick thin this is very unflattering so I liked the idea of buying a size that would hang perfectly – this approach also works great for denim jackets FYI.
Time sure has been flying! I was feeling ahead of the game when I put this blog post together, only to now notice that my last post was still about a month ago. I also noticed this is my second cheetah print post in a row! Oh well! We do what we can, right? 😉
I hope you are ready for the holidays because they are pretty much here! I’ve been getting in the mood thanks to Hallmark movies. Leo makes fun of me mercilessly for watching those sappy and formulaic TV movies, but I don’t care one bit. They always make me smile and leave me inspired to do the typical holiday stuff. Anyone else love those??
XO, Kate
