Full disclosure, I was not aware of how see through this top was until I reviewed the pictures. And I’ve had it for years! Even my husband/photog didn’t think it was quite this sheer until he looked at the pics on my computer. Keep in mind all this is after I spent an hour on the side of the Freeway waiting to see the firefighters’ procession.
I thought this would be a good topic to explore here on the blog. Here’s a great illustration of the sheer/not so sheer look, depending on lighting:
Have you ever had that happen? It’s actually pretty common. Full daylight can make things look a lot different than indoor lighting. Additionally, cameras – especially when you use a flash – can sometimes cause one to look overexposed. There are many articles online that show sheer blouse mishaps. Google it, the pics are great hehe.
This really made me think. Would I choose to wear the same outfit again, knowing that it was basically see through? It seems like a simple question, but it brings up a lot of variables: confidence, social standards, etc. To my surprise, I realized that I would wear it again. I guess I’m getting ballsier in my old age 😉
Of course I initially thought, “but I don’t have a model’s body” and all those other things that run through one’s mind. But I like the outfit, Leo liked the outfit, and I felt good in it so…as long as the sun is down or going down I’d do a repeat.
This outfit is so “covered up” that I felt it worked overall, but generally speaking full daylight is not the time to go super sheer. And of course it goes without saying that this is NOT office appropriate. If one does wear something sheer I also think it’s important to limit it to one item per outfit and avoid wearing a lacy/patterned bra to keep it from being overly sexy. Unless you’re in Vegas of course!
I’d love to hear if you agree or your counter argument in the comments.
Unfortunately this top is too old to find online, but I found this sheer bodysuit and I am obsessed! I already put it in my cart for later. And this is an adorable short sleeved option, while this is a super cute plus size option. If you’re thinking you need a base layer I highly recommend this cami, it’s a steal. If you have room in your budget, Cami NYC is universally recognized as being “the” place to buy quality camisoles.
You can still grab these (waterproof!!) OTK boots here. They are amazing! Not only are they stretchy, so they fit a wide array of ladies, but they also stay up and are crazy comfortable. I was stoked I had room to layer them over my fav, fully opaque Zella leggings (currently 25% of!). Buy these, you won’t regret it! I might just get a backup pair while they’re on sale…
You can still find this bag a few places online, even though I bought it over a year ago. It is amazing! I am still in love with the classic look, braided details, and the fact that it still looks brand new.
My necklace is no longer available, but this one is very similar and here’s a whole page of layered necklaces at a realistic price point. I want this one, but I’m trying very hard to resist. Layered necklaces is a trend I can for sure get behind!
Yep, that’s a see through shirt right there lol
Merry Christmas Eve, if you celebrate it. If not, happy Sunday! Much love, Kate

I love see-through blouses, and yours is really pretty dear. Beautiful print, and you paired it perfectly with OTK booties!

Thank you Jessica! I can’t get enough of my otk boots lately. I’m sure you’ll be seeing plenty more of them lol. Happy new year! XO, Kate
I think it’s great that you’re getting “ballsier”, haha. The top is great & it worked out to be stylish that way! … I always take my clothes & hold them up to a bright light to determine if they are likely to be see-through in the sunlight or not. If it is, whether or not I’ll wear it anyways greatly depends on where I’m going & w whom, haha.

Thanks Kara! I’m trying not to let fear hold me back anymore, even with the little things. Good tip, I’ll have to adopt that so I know what I’m getting myself into 😉
